Thread: Residential glass service...

    Default Residential glass service...

    Hey...

I have a 5'x5' clear double-pane (thermopane) window in my kitchen, and the seal has failed causing the unsightly clouding/etching that has practically made the window opaque. I originally thought about just getting the etched glass replaced, but given the size of the window, I thought it might be more cost effective to get an entirely new window unit with a factory warranty on the seal.

Anyone have any experiences with any local residential glass companies they'd be willing to share? Any opinions on whether replacing a pane versus replacing the entire unit is the smarter path $$$ wise?

    Thanks for any opinions.

I would just rip it out and put Plexiglass in it's place cheaper than glass.

    SoonerDave,
I would suggest Thermal Windows Inc. No pressure, and if you measure your window (running inch which is up one side and across the bottom or top) they will tell you how much replacement cost is over the phone. If you call them to estimate repairing or replacing they will give you good advice. And no, I don't work there, just own fifteen of their windows and three of their doors and have been very pleased in the ten+ years since having them installed as replacement windows.

    CT,

Just thought I'd follow up and offer KUDOS to your Thermal Windows suggestion. They were able to offer me a replacement window with a lifetime glass breakage and seal warranty for barely $50 more than the other co offered just to replace a single pane with a five-year seal warranty.

Only downside is they're about eight weeks behind on their orders (each window is custom-made), so I'm looking at mid/late July before its installed, but I've lived with the foggy window this long enough such that a few more weeks won't make any difference. Very impressive! I'll update later with the results once the window is installed.

    SoonerDave,
I know their product as well as their customer service/sales philosophy and I will say that I was looking at several companies. After the third "This price is only available today" pressure salesman, I called Thermal Windows and have been pleased since. I had one problem last year, and they came right by within a day or two and took care of it. It was a minor thing but they didn't know that until they came to the house. They are worth the wait, good look and I'm looking forward to your thoughts when they have completed the work.

I would suggest obscure glass windows for your house because these are affordable and strong. You should make contact to some glass companies through internet.
