The Urban Outfitters in St. Louis is located inside the very traditional St. Louis Galleria mall. This, despite the presence nearby of the University City loop, which is an edgy but thriving 10-block long urban street scape, a short walk from Washington University. For what it's worth.

Why does ABQ have one On their main college strip, and Campus Corner in Norman can't get one? It's a much more dense space, and a much richer school, and probably more students too.

UNM has more students and faculty than OU. It's a big state school. But still, I agree with you about UO.

Because Oklahoma City and by extension, Norman, is always discounted by national retail chains. Same reason we don't have a lot of other stores.

The differences between OU and ABQ's main campus student population is actually not a huge gap based on some stuff I just saw on the internet. I think it's more along the lines of what betts just said... people have a negative image of here, they go online and can't find any photos or websites of any business districts here (e.g. UNP Norman still doesn't have a website, Campus Corner's website is kind of 'light'), and when they send a scout here the first thing they see is tons of old poorly maintained shopping centers. It's really no wonder. "You just have to look harder" is not something a guy in marketing wants to hear. We need better commercial development. We need organized voices speaking for these developments. It's no wonder big development sites can land tenants... they have tax money backing them and usually the whole thing is owned by a single entity and has a single voice speaking for them.

I think this is why Classen Curve is becoming so successful. Lots of money backing it, the place looks great, when you type "classen curve" into Google the very first link you get is to a modern website that looks like it was built this decade, and the whole development/real estate is largely under the control of the same people. That's a recipe for success.

I disagree, I think this is a central location that will serve all of the metro. Trust me, there are people who drive to Dallas for this store. The two I know of an have been to is in Northpark Mall and the other in Mockingbird Station across 75 from SMU. For the OU students who know and want UO, they will be happy to travel to this area, as well as any other of the target market. Its a niche market but I think once here many others will find there is more to it than grungy fashion.

I am not an huge fan by any means but there are certain items that are unique and I think will be a great addition to the area and the city.

This could all make sense as to why there are rumors of a Chesapeake tower that will be taller than Devon, and why they are buying up all that existing office space.

Turn the current campus into a university, and temporarily house employees in all those other recently bought buildings while a tower is being built :-).

Sales per sq ft of current merchants on Campus Corner don't even come close to attracting a group like UO. CC has tons of charm, history and has a special place for OU alumni...that's it! Revenues are low, parking issues, etc...

Like I said...the current revenue numbers are extremely low! I bet they aren't 25% that of what Classen Curve merchants generate.

Iron Starr is a little fancy for the average student. I think if Campus Corner had a better mix of offerings, including national retail, revenue levels would rise.

There is absolutely, positively no way Chesapeake has any intention of converting their campus into a university.

It makes absolutely no sense on many levels, not the least of which being: 1) Oklahoma cannot even come close to funding it's existing universities, public or private; and 2) They have close to a billion dollars invested in that area just in real estate with more active construction on many fronts and lots more on the boards.

I'd rather see Tuckers on Western, but I'm glad they're doing well enough to expand. I think their food is as good, for its genre, as all the other Good Egg offerings.

... didn't they also recently agree to limiting the number of restaurants at Classen Curve, so duplication would be even more unlikely.

I don't see Tucker's in CC. To me, Tucker's is all about the old vintage Americana vibe of 23rd Street. It's somewhere I like taking my grandpa to, who lives nearby in J Park and we can just walk. I wouldn't take my grandpa to Republic or somewhere else with that level of yuppie-sheen, lest he think less of me.

The yuppie crowd equally patronizes Tucker's. It's a polished up version of a greasy onion burger shop.
