Thread: OKC Top Employers

  1. #1

    Default OKC Top Employers

Thought I'd start a new thread on this subject as a way of consolidating general information about the biggest employers in Central Oklahoma and the various trends around them.

The first chart is from the Chamber of Commerce but as I mentioned in the Chesapeake Business Practices thread, CHK is now reporting 5,000 OKC-based employees and added almost 1,000 just in 2011.

The second chart is for the GOLT program to provide incentives for companies to relocate to OKC or to expand their hiring. See the most recent detailed report here.

BTW, Cameron International is a manufacturing company, not anything to do with American Fidelity. And click the name for more information on UE Manufacturing.

Wow, the vast majority of those jobs are run off government spending - federal governement jobs, organizations that collect student loan debt backed by the government (which now exceeds credit card debt) or medical industry (which in most cases is medicade/medicare or feeding off these current government workers BCBS accounts or retirees CSRS accounts) spending....maybe Oklahoma should keep on voting republican until this house of cards collapses.

So by the numbers posted here, the top 10 employers in OKC, 8 of them are ran off government spending which represents 106865 jobs and in the top ten only 2 companies which represent 7400 are ran in the private sector. Maybe we should keep on screaming at the top of our lungs that we need a smaller government.

I did an earlier post that said Oklahoma City should because of its overall ultra negative big government stance, give back all those jobs and wait for the private sector to replace them. Good luck

Huh? The biggest myth out there is that Republicans reduce the size of government and Democrats increase it. Despite some talking points and anecdotal examples, there is not a lot to back this claim up.

I'm surprised no grocery chains made the list. They must have a lot of part time employees.

Not the largest but this list has 802 jobs in the state related to NASA. Anyone know where that’s at? Tinker? Burns Flat?

Tinker has some, I am VERY sure Mike Monroney has some, near the airport. And likely Burns Flat.

something to point out is that the 27,000 number at Tinker does not include the contractors that work on base.

Here is a list of the largest employers in the area published by the Chamber and updated in April.

They never list Walmart for some reason but I know they employ thousands in the area.

Note the only O&G companies are Chesapeake, Devon and Continental and they are pretty far down the list; Paycom is almost as big as all 3 combined.

Interesting that Amazon has now passed home-grown Hobby Lobby.

It’s amazing how many of those are new just within the last decade.

I would have thought OKCPS would be on that list.

Teachers are included in State of Oklahoma numbers.

I would think that Mathis and HSRG would be on this list.

HSRG has like 50+ metro restaurants plus corporate headquarters. 20 EEs per restaurant (and that would be low for a lot of their concepts) would be 1,000 right there.

Mathis I know has 2,000+ EEs and I doubt way over 50% is out of market, especially due to Sleep Studio and the Distribution Center

Ah, maybe this is only single FEIN entities? If so, the Chamber needs to produce better reporting because that would be a horrendous methodology for this data.

In addition to your numbers the exclusion of WalMart makes the entire list suspect

And does the 1100 for BOKF include all the employees in all the other states besides OK?
