I deal with airline fares every day and have for many years so I follow what's going on closely. I have seen an occasion where a passenger who wanted to originate in Dallas actually flew to OKC first and then back his destination through Dallas because it saved money. Airline fares can fluctuate wildly and sometimes it's just the luck of the draw based on when you book as to which city might be less expensive.
There are a few areas such as the Northeast and Denver in particular where fares have dropped signficantly compared to what they were a few years ago from OKC.
