From the pictures, it would take some substantial changes to improve the building as residential in appearance anyway. Hopefully they will come up with a good plan anyway for other uses.

I will be quite happy with this proposal... This helps to bring another element and expand the overall uses for 16th street. By redeveloping the apartments small professional offices or startups will have a place to locate. Thus adding more energy and creativity to the overall area..... GO Plaza District

    Yeah, Woo Woo, GO Plaza!

This is absolutely a win for the district. I heard about this awhile back, but figured it was just a rumor. This will plug one of the few remaining holes in the district and at the same time weed out some "undesirables". This is great news!

Very exciting as you can tell in my first post, lol, I'm really anxious to be able to go and see this in person once complete.

That's a bleak-looking building, and I would prefer to see it come down completely and be replaced by something more consistent with the rest of the district. However, in the spirit of not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, I will say this is a big step forward.

I'd be very afraid of a new building.... you could end up with a couple of suburban dental offices (like the ones over on classen blvd. now) the elevations in the previous post shows that their trying to modernize/urbanize the elevations.

Yeah, I'm glad it's not being torn down completely; I'm sure a new building would not be as urban.

There are a few houses just to the immediate south and one garage apartment to the east that should be torn down. If this can happen this will be a great help to the area as one block south of that building is known as a very, very shady area.

The area just a couple blocks to the northwest of the plaza district is where alot of nice homes are. Then just to the south is a very shady area.

I really like the brown two story home to the SW of that location. Also looked at the home/office to the East of these apartments. Currently lots of prostitution and drug dealing going on that property.

You actually think that looks "urban"?

As compared to most of oklahoma city? Yes. Do I think that it is the epitome of my personal connotation of the word "urban" or any other sources' literal definition? No.

Now, to answer Rover's question, I don't know in what context we should consider it urban, but in this case, I do consider it a huge urban improvement... we have reached the age of housing on the Plaza... (*faint*)

I agree. And I love the fact that the couple is looking south. This is exactly what has happened in other cities with old commercial areas being redeveloped. This is how you get affordable housing close to downtown when new construction is too expensive.
