Those are called 'urban campers'.
As someone who has nearly finished my master's in Environmental Design, I also highly doubt that the evergreens they have chosen to adorn their moat are either environmentally or aesthetically appropriate. It almost reminds me of the coniferous trees that people in rural Western Oklahoma put up for privacy along the edge of their property. Not that I'm not dying to hear your counter-response as well as qualifications, rcjunkie.
Part of the SandRidge team is Hoerr Schaudt landscape architects out of Chicago, who are incredibly qualified and well-regarded (as is Rogers Marvel, the lead architects). This lineup is on par with the group Devon has assembled -- and used for the Myriad Gardens -- and that's saying something.
I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and wait for this project to be finished before judging it.
The picketers, or so I have heard, are union protesters because Sandridge hired a non-union shop to do thier carpentery work.
Christ dude, get over it. Yeah it sucks that the buildings are gone, but bitching and your phd in divine urbanism are not going to bring them back. You can beat that dead horse all you want but it doesn't help anything.
I agree with Pete, reserve judgement until the project is completely finished. If Tom ward takes the same approach as he and Aubrey did with CHK, there will be plenty more buildings built to replace them.
lol, you think just because you're a student that you know so much more than people who have been doing this for a living for decades? You remind me of that guy from the bar scene in Good Will Hunting that thinks he knows so much more than everyone because he just got done reading some book. Then Matt Damon comes in and makes him look like an idiot. "How do you like those apples?"
Not to defend Spartan - but don't put to much stock in 'experts' because an expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less. Experts gave us public housing, the Pontiac Aztec, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and steered the Concordia. Even 'experts' can make a mistake and a lot of time these landscape architects are playing at the edge of the envelope and experimenting. It isn't an exact science.
While some might take offense at Spartan's occasional style, I think his knowledge is pretty deep on most of the subjects he chooses to write about. Experience and education do count for a lot, especially when passion is added to it....a lot more than just opinion, conjecture and the need to win any and all arguments. You may not always agree with him, but he comes from a perspective of serious study of the subject, not off the top of his head or from some other part of the anatomy. He, like all of us on here, just tend sto stray into the personal attack and defend mode too often. We need to seriously discuss issues with defensible positions.
I also agree ... Nick's contributions here are very worthwhile.
I guess I missed the part where constant complaining and derogatory posts are worthwhile contributions. But to each his own.
I came to this board with very little knowledge concerning urban development and I have learned a great deal from Spartan, Doug, Pete, and others. Spartan is certainly overly-aggressive the was he expresses his views, but his content is solid. The people that totally disregard him are ridiculous considering his contributions.
Back to subject please!!
This should help...

Notice the Braniff Building in the left corner.
Found this one just now, looking for something completely different. That's what usually happens.

Met Greg Dewey, VP of Communications & Community Relations at SandRidge today. Took a very quick tour of the 28th floor but couldn't stay long. Very impressive view! It's strange seeing downtown in a totally different angle for the first time. I will be back on another nice, clear day. Did a lot of video and pictures around the entrance and lobby. I'll be working on that today.

I will be back on future days. Greg had to stay with me the whole time and could not stay long. I can do panoramas then too. See the rest of the photos in the album.
Here's a link to the panoramas.
Awesome Will!
With that crane just south of the Braniff Building it looks like they are getting close to erecting that large metal canopy that will be between Braniff and the Tower.
