Or I can just admire the Braniff Building. As for Europe - great place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there with their confiscatory tax rates.

In 30 years will we look at Devon Tower the way we look at Liberty or the way we look at FNC? My guess is that we will look at it more like Liberty - a tall building made of glass and not how we see FNC or City Place - classic architectural masterpieces that can stand the test of time.
You've got to be kidding ? You need to go stand underneath Chase and look straight up.... then walk a couple of blocks over to Devon and look straight up.

Then come back on here and tell me which one sucks... the tapers, lines and curves of Devon are outstanding. I spent a week in Rome this fall and it wasn't the 100 year old 3 and 4 story buildings that stood out, it was the 2000 - 500 years old monuments that everyone flocks too.

I'll tell you what, wait 30 years and then walk over to Devon and look straight up. My guess is it won't be as awe inspiring in 30 years as it is today. Have you ever looked at the detail on the facade of FNC? Do you honestly think Devon can even come close to that? I won't even mention the inside of FNC.

I'm not saying the FNC looks bad, in fact I love the detail and art deco. Let's wait until we go inside Devon, look around the rotunda, take a trip to the top for dinner, and then lets compare.

Nothing new can EVER be good. Everything OKC and new is crap.

Oh yea, I AM being sarcastic again.

Devon Tower is world class regardless of its glass. Just not last century world class. But then again, OKC is focusing on a long future, not a short past.

I just happen to value craftsmanship and detail over glass, no matter how tall it is. For me, Devon is best viewed in its totality - meaning the 'height' is its defining characteristic. At eye level (the Human scale) there is no difference between Devon Tower and the glass Hertz building out on NWExpw. That is why the first thing (and usually the only thing) people say about Devon Tower is, "look how tall it is". If people don't see it that way then no problem.

No telling everyone what to think ALL THE TIME. It's not that you have an opinion it's how you disregard anyone that doesn't agree with your new urbanism ideology... and now everyone that likes Devon is stupid. A modern building can coexist with detailed buildings. Diversity is good in architecture and opinion.

Great post, Sid. Basically what I would have said if I took the time to be as thoughtful and patient as you.

Saying that no new architecture is valuable is like saying the only art worth appreciating is old masters. Not only does it sound pretentious, but usually shows a lack of understanding of what art really is and a lack of tolerance for anything but a narrow view.

I love Will Hiders work, but I guarantee he didn't get inside the property, especially after the last mishap. enjoy the pics.

What point? My only point is this is the DUMBEST corporate "plaza" aka common space I've seen in any city. When I was taking these photos today, it looks like a freaking forest. Completely out of place downtown and just looks stupid from out front looking north. I predict it will be almost as empty as the newly redone BOK plaza across the street, not a soul in sight.

This is the part where I tell you I've got a private tour of the entire campus in the works by the VP of Communications & Community Relations. I'm not worried about sneaking in and all that jazz.

From Monday. Pretty much the same shots as metro.

Okay - I like the little wavy things on the glass. How close will a civilian be able to get to them after everything is complete?

Anyone know what the plans for the park are? Keeping the marble tiles or going with grass? Keeping any of the fountains? Water stage?

Thanks so much Will and Metro!

Not sure about SandRidge forest but will reserve judgement until all the lanscaping and hardscape is complete.

Here are two interesting screen captures from Will's vid:

I like the log cabin on the east side of the ground level. An homage to settlement across the US! ;-)
