Thread: The "new" CBS Morning News??

Default The "new" CBS Morning News??

Have you watched any of the 'new' CBS news show to try and compete with the Today Show? Uhhmm...I don't think they'll succeed. From my perspective it doesn't appear they have one once of energy or passion. When I watch it its like getting the news from a very strict librarian. Blah!

It's not like Today is any better then the rest of them. Typical morning show pretty much consists of News of the Day, Weather, Interview with a person from the train wreck story of the day, the new health thing you need to do or you will die, brown nose time with a celebrity, half baked discussion on politics and maybe a live band. Today takes the cake with the two drunk wannabe cougars for the back half of the show.

If it was not for waiting rooms at various offices and businesses around the country shows like Today would be non existent.

I have noticed more and more businesses are changing their typical waiting areas. Many are opting for recorded programming that promotes their business. Some have even gone to letting the customer pick what to watch.

I cannot not stand morning shows and those stupid judge shows.

IMO the TODAY show has an energy, flow and unscripted casual feel that keeps me tuned in. Also, the fact that local KFOR morning news at the same time has the same feel for me its been my channel of choice for a long time. I occasionally click over to other morning programs but I end up clicking back.

They aren't trying to be "Today" and know they probably won't beat them because the last time CBS was number one in the morning was with "Captain Kangaroo" They are trying to be a harder news alternative and God bless them for trying. I like what they are doing and admire CBS for counter programming the tabloid nonsense that has become "Today" and "GMA"

The producer of this new venture is Chris Licht, who previously produced MORNING JOE on MSNBC. This is the model they are emulating, not TODAY or GMA.

This is exactly right. The approach they are taking is a gallant attempt to bring hard news, interviews, etc. back to morning television. CBS News, all the way around, is going back to their roots and really marketing the news brand. The glory days. It may - or may not - work, but for people who like more than just an entertainment show in the morning - I think it's great. Charlie Rose is a journalist of great skill and he lends a lot of credibility to this new show. I applaud them for going against the tide.

CBS, in fact, wanted to bring "Morning Joe" to mornings and were supposedly ready to shell out the big bucks to do it. MSNBC refused to discuss letting Scarborough out of his contract. That show is the hugely successsful anchor show on MSNBC. Plan "B" was to develop their own from scratch with some recognizable names. I like it.

Ehhh, I like my dog and pony news show (TODAY) each morning. By the time its on in the morning its really not 'news' anyway. If I want breaking hard hitting news and features I get it on demand via the web.

That said, i don't like when the news goes so casual and corny that it becomes a joke (AKA Fox25 in the morning).

I think it speaks volumes that yesterday's "Today" show was four hours of celebrating itself for being on the air for 60 years instead of actually covering news.

What a program originally founded to broadcast the news that happened over night wasn't broadcasting news? LOL

I'm sorry but I don't have problem with that. It's never been strictly a news coverage show since I started watching it with Dave Garroway unless J. Fred Muggs was a better reporter than I thought he was. Was there some news that you missed out on?
