Thread: End of the Catholic Church?

The Last Pope: Examining Nostradamus and Malachy (No. 288)

    (Edition 2.0 20000108-20050501)

Nostradamus has made some startling prophecies that have come true. He has also made some that have been misunderstood and dismissed incorrectly. The purpose here is to examine and perhaps explain two prophecies he made which have a religious significance and one of which has come true and one of which is due to come into play in the near future. Malachy was a Catholic Archbishop of the twelfth century who wrote an uncanny list of every Pope until the end. We will examine them both here. According to Malachy there are only two popes left to go.

Nostradamus gets more credit than he deserves. Many of his claims could've been made by almost anyone, and he's missed the dates on most of his claims. Some of his claims have never even come true.

Given today's happenings in the Catholic Church along with Nostradamus's predictions, what is your opinion on our being close to the last pope?

Heck, Benny Hinn is right more of the time than Nostradamus. Nostradamus made tons of predictions, most of which never came true. He only gets credit for the ones that came true.

Nostradamus claimed the world would end in the 20th century. Didn't happen.

They will always be around, because the catholic church has money. They are run like a business, so they will be around for a long time. I don't much care for them, though. They don't take their spirituality seriously. Mass is just a ritual for them.

As long as Midtowners are around, the Catholic church will be there.

I probably titled the thread incorrectly. What I meant to make the topic was "Do you think that we are close to having our last Pope?" I agree that the Church will probably always be around, but wouldn't it have to change quite a bit if there were no more popes?

The Roman Catholic church is the largest religious group in the world, with over a BILLION members, more than half of all Christians, there are almost as many Roman Catholics as there are Muslims in the world, and the Catholic church is likely growing just as fast as Islam is in the world. In South America and Africa the Roman church is exploding. There will be more popes, but the next one may well be hispanic or black.

Baptists just seem like the entire world here in Oklahoma, but at a paltry 70 million overall in all Baptist church groups combined the dominant group here barely registers in the rest of the world.

The Southern Baptists are in much more danger of dying than the Roman Catholic church. The SBC's internal doctrinal fights combined with the fact that the SBC is bleeding members to Evangelical and Pentecostal churches make the SBC's viability the one that should be questioned.

Here's an example of how deceptive Nostradmus's claims are. They can basically be applied to anything:

Did Nostradamus predict the bombing of the Twin Towers in New York?

Michel Nostradamus (born Michel de Nostredame), a 16th Century French astrologer and physician

Shortly after the ghastly terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City September 11th, 2001 a supposed prophecy of Nostradamus (the 16th century French soothsayer) began circulating the Internet and news media.
Look at Nostradamus' words that have been reported by the news media:
    • "In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror...
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city..."
"In the city of York there will be a great collapse,
two twin brothers torn apart by chaos
while the fortress falls the great leader will succumb
third big war will begin when the big city is burning"
An even more detailed prophecy flooded the Internet:
    • It has been foreseen that exactly three hundred and fifty years into the future,
Silver phoenixes shall strike down the twin brothers of oppression
That carried the king's nation, which shall bring upon the apocalypse.
In the City of God there will be a great thunder, two brothers torn apart by chaos
Did Nostradamus predict the bombing of the Twin Towers in New York? Not quite. Look at his actual prophecies:
    • They don't say "In the year of the new century and nine months," but "In the year 1999 and seven months, from the skies shall come an alarming powerful king" (Century 10:72).
    • Neither is there a mention of "twin brothers" being "torn apart." The "prophecy" actually says, "Two royal brothers shall war so much one against the other" (Century 3:97).
    • As for collapsing in the city of York and the sky burning, this is as close as he gets:
      • "The heaven shall burn at five and forty degrees,
The fire shall come near the great new city...
when they shall make a trial of the Normans" (Century 6;97).
Nostradamus never even mentioned the words "fortress" or "big war." Nostradamus is a billion dollar industry, and a little addition here and there to his rambling words helps business. According to the BBC News, "Books about Nostradamus, the apocalyptic prophet, have entered the bestseller list on the online retailer site Amazon since the terrorist attacks in the U.S." Following the attack, Nostradamus was on the Internet's fifty most popular search words so many times that he even displaced "sex" from the top-fifty list.

This simply shows the lack of intelligence some people have in this country. Actually beliving that Nostradamus prophesied 9-11.

I know this has nothing to do with the Catholic Church, but the issue of Nostradamus was brought up, so I apologize for leading us further off topic.
