I bet Folger's contract is up. I believe he came here around 3 years ago, a typical contract cycle.

This is one thing you have to hand to KFOR...they don't have nearly the revolving door on their core primetime team that KWTV and KOCO have.

  4. Default Re: Someone is leaving KOCO5

I don't think Jessica is going anywhere - EVER. I don't think Rick is leaving. I hope Paul stays. So, my guess is Daniel is taking a better job in sports.

i found it that its Daniel that is leaving

The true star at KOCO is Ryan Welton. He's the greatest person in the world and brought a lot of us together. If he leaves, KOCO will die.

They do it's just rusted shut. I have a funny feeling Linda Cavanaugh will probably be like Bob Barry (no offense, good guy god rest his soul) Though her final days will be more interesting, walker, shaw curlers and 50 cats covering the news desk.

It's tv folks, we'll all just get used to whatever the new schmo is on tv. It's not like the stations live or die by news anchors.

Maybe not hear, but I've seen plenty of markets that have a revolving door on their anchor desk drop to basement like numbers in the ratings. I was reading a story on a NBC affiliate in another city that hasn't had a secured anchor team for a 12-month period for several years now. Their viewership on the evening news is like 5000 people when the next competitor above them is around 30000. So yes...some stations do live or die by news anchors. :-)

Except for the local weather I don’t watch very much of the local TV newscast but when I do it’s mostly CH 9 mainly because it’s locally owned. CH 4 was much better when it was locally owned.

Noticed a new sports guy named Bryan Keating who has taken over Daniel Holdge's old position.

Channel 5 screwed the pooch with this one... instead of elevating Daniel Holdge to director when Rogers leaves they bring in Irzyk?!?! Irzyk is HORRIBLE for the OKC market and I really liked Holdge... Bad, bad move by Channel 5 in my opinion.

Despite that, channel 5 is still the only one of the 3 locals that I can even stand to watch, when I do watch the local news...

    That's why KFOR sucks.

The sad truth is that local news, in general, stinks. We abandoned any hopes of serious local news coverage years ago. It just doesn't exist, and no one is interested in providing it. We're stuck with "live reports from places where nothing is happening" to give you "critical news updates" on "stuff that happened days ago." Lipstick, meet pig.

PLEASE let it be Paul Folger, and bring back Maggie Carlo, I really miss her. Jessica is the only reason I watch channel 5. I switched from channel 5 to "Oklahoma's Own, News 9 in High Defintion". Their newscast is always fun to watch with Robin Marsh and Stan Miller in the morning. To Christina Eckart at noon to Kelly Ogle and Amanda Taylor in the evening hours.

The departure from KOCO happened a while back. It was one of their sportscasters. Sorry, but there's no chance that Maggie will ever come back. She's in Chicago and doing fine, and I think I read on Twitter she has two kids now.

And for the record, I like Paul Folger. He's doing a great job.
