Also, why would you want to change the appearance of "your son?" Don't you think that will "hurt his feelings?"

I color my hair. Let me tell you, getting it done is not a fun process. Even if you are not allergic to it, it can itch like all heck. If you are even mildly allergic to it, it can burn like crazy. I still do it, because I am a human being and it is my choice. However, your dog is not able to make that choice. So please do not dye his hair. He is absolutely adorable the way he is!

I remember reading in the bible that " if you spare the rod, your spoiling the dog", in other words don't spoil your dog/poodle puppy, woop them when they deserve it. Lol

I was thinking of maybe in Spring or Summer, dye him blue/black, football season OU colors, and maybe red/green for Christmas. I'm sure the vet can monitor if he has any allergic reaction. I will know immediately if he starts going extreme psycho, scratching, and howling thy kingdom come.

Just keep in mind, Thunder, that in doing that you're doing it totally for your pleasure. Your dog won't know or care that its been dyed. It's not like having a dog's fur trimmed to keep it more comfortable.

Sure it may just be simple dye, but you are doing it for your enjoyment - not the animals. Pets look up to us to look out for them, not utilize them in anyway we see fit. Now if you want a dog that is going to work for you - hunting dog, cattle dog, etc...that is different. You bought this one as a pet to be, essentially, your child. Buying clothes for a dog is one thing - which I don't really agree with either, but some dogs do need additional covering in cold weather if they aren't growing a winter coat. However, dying the hair just to suit your desires it just selfish and does nothing for the dog. But...to each his own. You should expect to get strong opinions to comments you post here by making your world and completely open book.

Thunder, I generally love my pets more than most people. Maybe all people. So I truly understand thinking of my pets as my children. Based on this I ask you very seriously to reconsider dying Taz. Even if it is perfectly safe. You are doing it for you, not him. Please think of only him in everything you do to or with him.

Well, I did dress my three "kids" in their Halloween costumes last night, but it's largely to amuse the children who come to the door for Trick or Treat. They put their "costumes" on for about two hours once a year. I figure that's okay, and the kiddoes love it.

I draw the line at clothes for everyday occasions, except for the Beagle, who does not fare well in colder temperatures. The two terriers would sit out for hours in a monsoon or blizzard were I to let them.

I would certainly draw the line at dyeing any of my pets' hair. They are not circus animals to be put upon a stage. They are not in my life solely for my entertainment. They are my "family," to be sure, but also my responsibility. Dyeing their hair solely for my own amusement is not a responsible act.

As Venture and others have noted, pet hair dyeing (much like taking the pet to local tourist attractions) is to the benefit of the pet "owner," not the animal itself. There is no intrinsic benefit to Taz by dyeing his hair. He won't know what has been done. Only you (and/or others) will.

I do admit that when I lived in Nebraska I had a 'sweater' for my dog when he went outside to do his business in the winter time.

Taz the Poodle just had his first haircut (and a bath, etc). I went to A Class Grooming / Silver Poodle on 15th just off of Sunnylane (by the laundromat) in Del City. Mom used to take our doggy there for haircut many time oh so many years ago. So, I went in there, the business is still there, but the upkeep is horrible. Luckily, the lady said that her schedule was full for the day. So, I went to Dogs Beautiful on Bryant (previously on Bryant near 44th, but relocated to her home location) and 14th. Its very nice! She expanded her home on property to include such a glorious nice shop. She accepted him and he stayed there for a few hours (she was busy). Price for bath, haircut, and all the goodies came to $23.

When I left him there, the lady initially said to do a little work since its his first time (has to learn getting used to it), but he was well behaved, so she went ahead with the full work. I said to do anything for him. I was not prepared on what haircut style (traumatized with attacks from people on here). So, I let the lady to decide what haircut style. He's real cute. It really surprised me, because he was growing so big..then suddenly he is so tiny and skinny. LOL!

Next time, I will tell her to leave his hair a bit longer. I think its a bit too short and it makes him look older. The haircut took out all his brown tips, so only brown we see is his ears. :-O
