Wow. I can hardly wait.
Yeah, a potato bar would be awesome! Becuase baking a potato at home then putting butter, cheese and bacon bits on it is really, really hard...
But if they really want to gain a following, they need to be open for breakfast and serve a baked potato with a really good sausage gravy.
Yeah . . . Baked potatoes are pretty much a DIY project in my opinion.
Now, if it were a Spudnut shop it might be something worth getting excited about . . .
That's not the point guys, burgers, pizza and any fast food is better and a DIY project, but Americans like convenience.
I'd bet that the convenience of a Potato Bar would be especially appealing to Irish-Americans.
But, on the other hand, I'd hate to be accused of stereotyping.

Yes. Wendy's does. (or is that Wendy's' do?)
But those are general fast food baked potatoes.
Not those served at dedicated potato preparation establishments.

I would be shocked if they actually serve baked potatoes. Most restaurant potatoes that are advertised as "baked" are steamed or cooked using other methods. Only steakhouses, it seems, bother to actually bake potatoes.
For me, there's nothing approximating what I can cook at home at 475 degrees for one hour.

Just be sure to scrub all the dirt off your PommedeTerre--from the store or the garden--prior to baking.
Unless, of course, you prefer the gritty texture (whispering "Organic") that helps to offset and distract you from the (unexpected? "jeannie-say-kwah"? pinkness) of the sausage side . . . =)
But the one I can't understand are the Cereal Bars! Really, you cant have cereal and milk at home?

"Homemade Cereal" is a big hassle . . .
Plus you don't get to wait in line (on account of being in a hurry).
And you don't get to argue with the Cerealista about how much frosting you want on your flakes or what percentage of fat you want in your milk.
Also to stick to topic, I haven't heard anything about any Baked Potato Bars but the N.W. Expressway & Rockwell area would be a believable place for one to go in at.
It could have changed in the 20+ years since I worked at Wendy's. But when I worked there, they were real honest to goodness baked potatoes. However, they got rid of their salad/hot food bar a few years back so that aspect of it is no longer available. That said, Golden Corral, Western Sizzlin, Souper!Salad! all have potato bars (as part of the buffet, don't know if they have a less expensive potato only bar option).
Jason's Deli offers three kinds of baked potatoes with an option for "lighter side". They are huge and excellent. It's a full meal all by itself.
