They can't do that. The elevator need to be open to the public for handicap access.

Really? Don't worry Thunder you can get to the top floors and eat at the future restaurant!

Why do they need an elevator to be open to the public when nobody besides workers will be coming from the mechanical room? Lol

Because the elevator also stop at the restaurant floors? Someone in a wheelchair will be wanting to go on the top. If the elevator is closed to the public, how do you think a wheelchair customer will go up on the top floor?

The elevator that cad_poke mentioned is going to be installed on the 52nd floor, which is a mechanical floor, for maintenance purposes. Only specified workers will be on the mechanical floor, not the general public.

The roof and top floors are two separate things. They will probably want someone in peak physical condition to be on the roof for maintenance issues due to wind and other heavy lifting.

Not sure how how they will provide access but they are definitely building an observation deck on what is essentially the 53rd level, with glass railings on the top of each of the three indentions.

People will be able to walk about and take in the view at all three points.
^^^ This is confirmation from the owner of this website. He has inside sources/contacts, so I believe him.

Nobody is arguing what Pete said but you said that the general public needs access to an elevator that is on a mechanical floor. I'm assuming you just didn't understand the elevator will be on a mechanical floor that will go up to the roof for maintenance issues.

Will there be another elevator from the restaurants to the observation deck?

Nice, I didn't know there would be an observation deck! Thanks Pete and Thunder! I am now excited about the new observation deck!

If the observation deck is open to the public then I'm willing to bet it will have elevators on the restauraunt level that go up to the roof.

The plans Pete posted said "new glass vestibule", "new metal stair", "new elevator enclosure", "new metal walkway", and "new glass guardrail". These sound like additions to the original plans.

How is this possible? Just a few months ago I was assured that no changes to the crown would be made and what had already been presented to the public was exactly how it would be built. Weird.

Either way it's a welcomed change.

I agree, but I seriously doubt they are going to let people as close to the edge as those drawings indicate. There has to be a safety feature that keeps people from jumping off.

The outside still looks the same. Not that hard to put up some walkways, guardrails, and leave a hole in the roof for one elevator. There has been some changes like the addition of a restaurant which I think this new observation deck is primarily for. You suggested that there were major structural changes.

Lol. You suggested that the entire crown was completely different in design than all the renderings shown to date. They simply added some rails and doors and such to the existing structure. You were called out for your ridiculous crown conspiracy theory. Not the same. AT. ALL.

All I suggested is that the glass will go on the inside of the yellow beams, and not on the outside as the renditions indicate. The closest I ever came to suggesting structural changes was the height of the crown, which was quickly disproven thanks to some photos from the crane cab.

Actually you said the crown wouldn't even have glass, would be a different color, and not even resemble every rendering up to that point... without any evidence at all.

There will definitely be an observation deck but we don't know who will have access. It might only be open to VIP's and special guests for all we know.

But there will definitely be one and the way Nichols & Devon have insisted on making the building and most their complex open to the public, my bet is they will allow the proletariat up there at specific times, with proper supervision.

And while this is a very nice feature, remember anyone will be able to go to the restaurant which will only be two levels lower and have pretty much the same view.

You're right. I withdrawl my comment. I hope the new observation deck is open to the general public.
