Maybe too many girls in that neighborhood are giving away sex for free. A lot of girls can't restrain themselves when they find some guy to just be gorgeous for days. Sorry, if that doesn't include you.

FYI - If you happen to catch CNBC's new series "Crime Inc." you will see lots of footage I shot in OKC and Tulsa for their episode "Crime Inc.: Human Trafficking." The series began airing in May and re-runs regularly.

Just found this link to it... http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xj2...ary_shortfilms

FYI - The largest prostitution ring in Oklahoma has just been broken up. The ring was a merger between the Mario Diaz 'family' and the Germaine Coulter 'family.' It is estimated they were making as much as $240,000 in a single month. The ring leader, Germain coulter, is in a Texas prison and his monthly expenses here in Oklahoma are $18,000. Even from prison he has the ring controlled enough that he meets those expenses and still cleared at least another $25,000 per month. Until his arrest the ring's primary operations were led from a million dollar estate in north Edmond. The FBI questioned me about this ring over 2 years ago. I'm glad to see it finally being broken up.

Today the OKC Council considers changes to the Nuisance Ordinance that will allow police to impound vehicles used in the facilitation of prostitution - hooker's cars, pimp's cars, John's cars and 3rd parties that transport prostitutes to and from places of prostitution.

    http://freepdfhosting.com/eaa0e9b9cc.pdf (.pdf of proposed changes)

I am of mixed opinion regarding this ordinance. On the down side, I do not see how this promotes helping the prostitute. If she has already reduced herself to prostitution, taking her car away is not going to better her situation in any way, and therefore will probably just increase the odds she continues to prostitute. But, I guess the odds she was going to stop were not to great to begin with. It also could place unnecessary hardship on the family members of the Johns if this is their only car.

    Thoughts?

    They should license them instead.

Many people share that opinion - these are my thoughts on the topic of legalization as a solution (dealing strictly with forced, street and organized prostitution)... http://johntv.com/?page_id=1602

That said, legalization certainly is not an option in the foreseeable future - but taking away cars is in the possible immediate future - thoughts?

    It can't hurt, can it?

Assume you're talking about seizing cars? On a whole, I'm not against this. The problems I see is that I seriously doubt a John is going to consider losing his car as deterrent considering he already knows he could lose his marriage, job, reputation, cost him thousands of dollars and get a criminal record. As for the hookers, they are selling themselves for $20 at a time to any smelly schmoe that drives by. Most don't have cars and if they do, they already hide them. Those with cars to lose will simply chalk it up as another thing keeping them from doing anything else and most lose their cars on a fairly regular basis anyway. As for the pimps, rarely do you see one dropping a girl off or picking her up. Curious to see if they use this to target the men who often drive these girls around Robinson and to/from the hookers hotels. Overall, I think it will be another unenforced law on the books for the cops to use when they want to harass a specific person for a specific reason.

Can see a potential deterrent effect for johns. I wonder though ....

Who gets first dibs on the car when a john stops by a rent a wreck shop first?

Will the desire to protect the cars of the pimp/ho brigade result in an increase in ridership on city bus routes?

Will there be an uptick in taxi biz on S Robinson and Shields?

Will the working girls now stake out park benches or toliet facilities instead of street corners?

I would question the legalities of taking the car... What other misdemeanors do the police seize the persons car? Whets next, taking a car for doing 10 over the speed limit?

They already do it for crimes like drive-by shootings. Several other states have similar laws. They justify it because they deem the car as facilitating a public nuisance and the impound is only temporary. They considered trying to seize the vehicle and selling it (like they do with drug cases), but that proved to much of a challenge legally for nuisance cases.

Not sure I would equate picking up a hooker on the same level as drive by shootings or police chases. I have mixed feelings and if I was asked to vote I would vote no.

You aren't being asked to vote. City Council is voting this morning. I agree, its not on the same level and I don't think it will have any positive effect. I'm not against it simply because I think those involved in certain types of prostitution get what they get. I also don't like that all this effort will be going into putting more money in the tow services pocket. They will get virtually all the impound fees.

If they'd elect to do it but limit it to school zone speeding, adjacent to park/playground speeding, and other marked kiddo present areas, I'd actually have no problem with that addition. Seeing a reduction of idjits being idjits where kiddos are playing just wouldn't bother me at all.

Isn't there already increased fines for speeding in a school zone? But we both know there's no stopping idjits......

    The ordinance passed.

Brian, you need to tell them not to take cars away in an automatic way. The person driving it may not own it, so all of it needs to be done carefully.

Doesn't matter who owns it. Better idea is don't loan your car out.

Its really sad that the government feel the need to own people's body. To own people's money. And they'd come up with anything to make money. Now they will steal vehicles in order to sell them off to fill their pockets.

True. However, it's rather difficult for a car-less idjit to speed in a school zone when his/her car is impounded.

Be interesting to see how frequently the new ordinance is enforced.

Considering that people are arrested every day for having sex and paying for sex, the police will not lose the opportunity to steal their cars. Now in all future Brian's videos catching people in the act, all the vehicles in his videos will most likely be stolen by the police and auctioned off for cold, hard cash. So, yeah, its going to be enforced each and every time someone gets busted.

Another sign that our "big league city" is strapped for cash.
And no they wouldnt take it away for doing 10 over but 11 over yes......

Considering how infrequently prostitution arrests are made and even fewer are prosecuted, I doubt they impound two dozen a year.
