Watched it with the wife. We thought it was okay. Not great, but not as bad we thought it could be. Left it on our DVR schedule for now.
My main gripe about this show is it is a one-trick pony. Every week is basically the exact same theme over and over again. Hoping Ashton brings some new life to it.
Uh-oh...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the DVR resumed the "Season Pass" settings from last season, or else I'm a dead man (even Hulu can't save me from the wrath of a woman scorned)
Mr. Fritter has watched and loved it for years. I couldn't stand it, or the Charlie character, mostly because I have no taste whatsoever for Mr. Sheen.
I took in the show last night with Ashton. Was a bit dull, but will give it another go. He is, up to this point, less offensive to me than Charlie was (the actor AND the character).
Not a big TV watcher anyway, so if I don't see it regularly, I'm not going to mourn its loss in my life.
2.5Men was better than I expected, but I really dinna expect much.
Enjoyed H50 more, once I got around to watching it. I admit its ending caught me off guard.
Watched it mainly just to see how they were going deal with Charlie's absence and how the new character worked into things.
They had actually set things up the season before when Sheen was having marital and legal problems where Charlie might end up going to jail for a while. Those particular problems got worked out so they didn't need to use that plot device but could have worked it in anyway. or Charlie has to fake his death (a possibility) to escape a jealous husband/boyfriend. As crazy as Rose is, this could all be an elaborate con. Not that I really expect Sheen to ever come back but he does seem to be more contrite now in recent appearances.
Still think they should have made Ashton's character a relative (still a possibility) since Alan & Charlie's mother had multiple husbands and a few affairs along the way so a half-brother is a distinct possibility. Ashton's age could be a problem though.
Was surprised with John Stamos cameo (he was rumored to be in the running as a replacement) and loved the "bad memory" 3-way that became a 2-way. Then complete surprise to have the series creator's previous characters (Dharma & Greg) show up as possible house buyers. Then in the next scene, the actor that played Greg's friend/lawyer buddy, was the delivery guy that showed up with Charlie's ashes. He has also used the pizza delivery guy, still delivering pizzas from Dharma & Greg to Two and a Half Men.
Honestly the show has such a strong supporting cast (the Mother, Rose, Berta the Housekeeper) that a replacement wasn't all that needed (other than to remain the shows title). I think the show has remained as fresh as one that has been on for several years can be. They switched the roles of Charlie & Alan a bit (where Charlie was trying to settle down & Alan became a horndog) etc. How many times have the same basic stories been told on the various incarnations of Star Trek? Cheers? Gunsmoke? Bonanza? M*A*S*H? Seinfeld? When you have a basic formula and characters (actors & writers) that works....
I know there was a LOT to work in but where was Alan's girlfriend (Courtney Thorne-Smith) & her equally dim teenage son after Alan had burned down her house and they all moved into Charlie's? She was at least a semi-regular last season??
I have to admit that I very seldom watched the show before. I guess I am just watching something else. I watched it Monday night and thought it was very funny. I have always liked Ashton K. I hope the show does well and I might watch from time to time.
