I fail to see how putting the small shops out of business is a negative. Isn't this The United States of America?

At any rate, when one of the "mom and pops" go out, there will be a job at Wal-mart for them and their employees.

It is not like there are that many "mom and pop" shops in the area of the new Wal-Mart anyways. I imagine if they put one right along route 66 in Arcadia then it would be devastating, but this isnt the case.

I am guessing you mean it would be devastating to any "mom and pop" that is out there, but just you watch the Wal-Mart store fill up with customers who are so very happy they can finally do some shopping close to home.

Even mom and pop will be shopping at Wal-Mart.

Its a negative for the family and people involved at the time it goes out of business.

Could it just be a perceived negative and actually be a blessing?

It is so easy to get people to hop onto the "poor me" bandwagon.

It all depends on the situation. To some it may be a blessing but to others it may not. I believe people are entitled to feel a little down sometimes when dramatic things happen in their personal or business life. The importantce is they pick their feet back up and move forward with their lives.

Poop smeared all over the floor and mirrors in the bathrooms at the Belle Isle Wal-Mart on numerous visits.

Open dirty diapers on a shelf in the toilet paper aisle at the store on Penn and Memorial. It was gross.

No, I actually didn't call the health dept. but probably should have.

Most mom and pop stores paid better than Wal-Mart. Plus, the management was family and actually cared about their employees. Wal-Mart is a huge corporation. If you have a family issue that keeps you away from work, they could care less. You're just a number. If you don't show up for work, you're fired. They don't care.

Also, Wal-Mart really holds a monopoly right now, on that type of business. People simply can't compete with them. Sort-of like Microsoft. I think both should fall under the same restrictions other monopolies have to follow.

Okay that is just plain out gross. I have gone to Walmart since I was a child. I have never came across an incident like that. I wouldn't continue to go to a place if I had numerous of incidents like the one you described above. I went to Walmart last night on Danforth in Edmond. It was nice and not dirty at all. There was a little big of litter in the parking lot but I see that everywhere.

I am still excited about the new developement of Walmart on 1-35 in Edmond.

Patrick failed to mention that he was the one who took the poop and slime into the store and put it on the shelf.

C'mon folks---It is not the store policy to let that stuff be there; it would be very easy for some customer to do it, and one of you just happen to be the next shopper in the area.

I hear all people who live in NW OKC or Edmond are likely to do something like that---leave poop and slime on the shelf.

What quality city has a Walmart Supercenter in their CBD? What I meant was that if a Walmart was built down there, everything we have been working for on this site (most of us at least) towards a better, urban city would basically be lost. That would be the end of the world as far as I am concerned. Who knows what historic buildings they would have to tear down to make room for their massive big-box and surface parking lot? There are Walmarts all over the city. We don't need any more and we most definitely don't need one in the CBD of downtown.

Maybe we could bulldoze Myriad Gardens and put a Walmart there.

I went to Wal-Mart today when wife and I went to the city. (Yep! Still married, Daisy LOL)

I got my week's supply of Sam's Cola (50 cents for two liters---got 10 bottles); I hope it lasts all week, but I have some stock left from past weeks. The MWC store stopped carrying my type chewing gum tho.

I did not run onto any slime nor any poop at the Midwest City store, nor did I run onto anyone that was unpleasant that I noticed.

Yes! The parking lot was full, but there just happened to be a nice spot right where my wife ordered me to park.

Maybe a drawback was the children selling cookies or whatever at the exit door outside; my wife is a school teacher, and she knows all the kids in this area, so we make those type purchases from neighborhood kids. I thought Wal-Mart had banned solicitors; truthfully, I feel that at any store's door is the wrong place for that type selling. Too, I know how dangerous it is nowadays for kids to go door to door, so I do not have a thought on how that should be handled.

It was a pleasant experience, and I am so looking forward to the two Super Centers to be finished out in the Mid-Del area. I just wish they would build one of them farther east and a Home Depot too.

I'm sure it's possible to have a "pleasant" suburban experience at Walmart, and to save a couple cents, but that doesn't mean that Walmart is right for downtown or even right for America. I'm not convinced.

And there are those of us who do not feel that downtown is right for America.

Maybe downtown belongs in Pre-Reagan era Russia, pre-9/11 Iraq? pre-1945 Germany or Italy? but not in my neighborhood.

It would go really well with Bass Pro and Sonic Hq and Harkins to have Wal-Mart build on stilts over the canal---The big box could shade the boat riders in summer, and in winter, there could be glass enclosures that would make the area usable year round, and we owe it all to an Arkansawyer.

And just a short hop up the stairs, and one could enjoy a fine shopping experience. Just watch them drool over the sales taxes that might be generated.

I think Randy Hogan likes your idea. If he were to land a SuperCenter right next to Harkins, he'd probably be voted citizen of the year, and crowned mayor of Bricktown. Who cares that it's downtown. It's making the city money, right? The bottom line....that's all that matters.

Actually, No! Money for any city is not my thing---My thing is the less money they have, the less chance they will be able to mess me around.

I just like keeping these guys on their toes concerning putting a Wal-Mart down there; I spent a couple days trying to figure out what the CBD is, and I am not sure but I came up with Central Business District; is that correct, and if so, where is the CBD?

  18. Default Re: Walmart is digging a hole to China in Edmond

The CBD would be the area with the big tall buildings. There is a map on downtownokc.com.

Tell you what....let's take all the money away from the city. Then let's watch our roads, sewers, parks, and everything else completely disintegrate.

Remember, I live in the country, and I am very happy out here; I like it even better when there are no code enforcement cars prowling around wayy out here.

Remember Hitler, 1939---nobody opposed him, and look what it brought upon the world.

So JB, You think my thoughts should be censored, so you will be able to spew your support for city without any rebuttals?

You think we support the city in every way? Ha! Maybe you need to check out the thread on Randy Hogan! We're not for every city organization. In fact, most of us on here are appalled with the way OCURA operates. Add the airport distrust to that list as well.

That being said, I don't think you should oppose someone just to oppose them. That's ridiculous. If someone is doing good service for you in the public arena, support them in their efforts.

Oki_Man, sounds like you'd find anything wrong with any government. You like anarchy?

    WalMart=Hitler.

Except Hitler was cleaner than WalMart stores.

Oki_Man, I never said anything about censoring you, I just don't see why you're here.
