That's cool, I just don't want to see law enforcement being blamed for not enforcing something that doesn't apply.

Trust me on this: There are already traffic laws on the books to deal with those specific issues. It is simply a matter of selective enforcement. (No part of which involves taking away from too much time spent in donut shops . . . or gyms. =)

Radical, the difference is that, even if it shouldn't be, cell phone use while driving is quite legal in Oklahoma. There isn't much law enforcement can do about that. Talk to the legislature.

The same can be said for reaching for a dropped french fry, changing the radio station etc. EXCEPT...

Oklahoma’s inattentive driving law went into effect Nov. 1, 2010. Does not specify use of handheld cell phones or text messaging devices, but allows for penalties if their use causes an accident or leads to reckless/careless driving. Also taking effect was the law against use of electronic handheld devices by drivers with junior licenses.

Current prohibitions:
* Drivers required to “devote their full time and attention to such driving.” Fines $100.
* Drivers with permits or graduated licenses (teens) prohibited from using a handheld electronic device to talk or to text while the car is in motion.

And something that must be weighed is that Oklahoma City is at a MAJOR crossing of three cross country interstates - I-40, I-44 and I-35.

Basically what this boils down to is that we do have inclement conditions, we have terrible infrastructure, we have the last place in most infrastructure and walkability studies, we have slowly grown accustomed to failure (perhaps culturally and institutionally even), we have people who are change averse, and we are going backwards on walkability still to this date. And people want to act surprised or come up with excuses as to why OKC roads are dangerous? This is a fact. It's time to stop denying it, accept it, move on, tackle the problem, and do something proactive about it. Or the alternative is to simply acknowledge and promote OKC as a city for cars only. "Move to OKC, you can run bicyclists over here!"

As sorry as a vast number of "drivers" are here in OKC and Tulsa (and apparently getting worse all the time) I have to say that, in my experience, Dallas and Minneapolis drivers are far worse. Maybe they are just luckier in terms of not generating accident statistics--their driving still sucks.

However--even with their BRUTAL winters--the roads everywhere in Minnesota are FAR superior.
(With the obvious exception of that old I-35 bridge, of course).

I disagree, when I drive here in Dallas, I know when I hop on that freeway not to f*** around, "Drive", let your signal mean something, if you change lanes, GO, if you are going to pass, PASS, etc... no problems except for the traffic jams when there are accidents. I have experienced a lot less road rage here, than in OKC. Not trying to knock Oklahoma City at all - but Dallas driving is just more demanding of the driver to DRIVE.

Oklahoma City - where the adherence to traffic light laws is optional. I moved back here from the Northwest in 2007, and since then I've been in two accidents, both caused by red light runners. The first one was an unlicensed, uninsured woman driving an unregistered vehicle, she had no identification and had her daughter and infant grandchild in the car, and she barreled through that red light and smashed into me. Police response? She was allowed to call for a ride to go home. Bitch didn't even go to jail! The second accident, a wealthy yuppie in a giant, black SUV barreled through a red light going perhaps 50mph at Memorial and Hefner Parkway and utterly destroyed my poor little Cobalt. He, too, had his kids in the car with him. His response when I limped over to his almost completely undamaged vehicle, holding my bruised ribs in some of the worst abdominal pain I've ever felt: "sorry 'bout that".

People here seem to think there's a 10 second rule on red lights or something. I agree with mburlison; I have noticed that as crazy as Dallas driving seems, there's a method to the madness. There's order in the apparent chaos, as opposed to the mess we have here. Dallas is only a dangerous place to drive if you're an OKC styled driver.

My two cousins from Boston say that OKC drivers are horrendous,and this is coming from some pretty defensive drivers whose highway motto is "take or be taken",Boston is known for their agressive drivers who take no nonsense and are nicknamed MassHoles!In my own opinion,I think OKC drivers drive like their in a much larger city,when infact dont need to and sometimes you get the scared to merge people who cause chaos also!
