Thread: Pops

One thing I wish, is that the retailers remained open past 6pm. They all close about that time, the restaurants close a little later, about 7pm. It feels so "little-league" coming home to an empty, dark, lifeless terminal at that time -- when it's not even late, and there are still about 5 or 6 departures between 5-730pm.

If flights are coming in/out, they businesses need to be open. I agree with the closing time issue but great addition with Pops!

Is Pops still managed by GoodEgg? I never really understood the relationship there.

If regularly scheduled flights are coming in, yes there should be some still open but I have been in many airports on delayed flights where only a few car rental counters were still open upon arrival....and not the one that I had my reservation with.

No kidding. OKC's airport is absolutely dead when you fly into it in the evening. Everything is closed. I can't believe we spent all that money sprucing it up only to see it closed like an empty tomb.

No, they parted company some time ago.

I can understand some shops closing down as soon as the last departures leave. But at 6pm there are still 9 scheduled departures for the night, on average. Plus the evening arrival pull begins to swing at 6pm. So there is traffic.

On the Paradies website, the concessionaire, it says they remain open until 8pm. That has not been my experience. A month ago I arrived at 5:35 and the 3 shops on the WC were pulling down the chain-barriers. This was a Friday.

We definitely need to have the stores open before flights take off, but when I get off a plane I just want to hit the luggage carousel and get home. I don't want to hang out in the airport and get a route 44 from Sonic.

I may not want to get a Sonic drink but there have been times I wanted to pick up an item I saw at the gift shop (before the remodel, I used to be able to do that). Now if you find something, have to get it on your way out to Vegas, keep it with you, fly it back, hope it doesn't get damaged or lost in the process etc. With the shops being past security now (they weren't before), you can't even come back at a later time to get it.

Here's all of the proposed changes, Pete.

    Larger version: http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/9805/okcterm.jpg

The CNBC store will remain, both in the ticketing lobby and in the Central Concourse. Everything else is switching (not the restaurants, those are under a contract to a different operator)

    Thanks for that!

So, there will be two Pops locations at the airport?

Also, why are they doing this now? I thought they were planning to completely redesign the security check-points and thus impact the retail space in the main terminal.

Only thing that will change on the retail side is the Sonic kitchen being cut into as well as that dining area. I think the restrooms will need to be moved over a little too. Other retail space will be unaffected.

Even after this 2000 remodel, the building still feels outdated in the sense that it is cramped. The concourse is narrow, concession areas are small, restrooms are small, ticket lobby is small, security is small, baggage claim is small, and the lower level drive that serves the baggage claim is small - with only two travel lanes, and one lane that is constantly blocked with cars waiting.

The entire terminal building feels small.

I agree about it being/feeling cramped, especially when compared to the west concourse.

Didn't realize that nearly half of the ticket counter space is unoccupied (but only accounts for 4 gates). And it does indeed look like Pops will have 2 locations (plus a storage area)

Well, I will say this...in June my wife and traveled to Maui. We flew via United. Stops in Denver and LAX. I will say this...other than Denver, WRWA was the nicest, cleanest most modern airport. The parts of LAX we were in were very unimpressive. Quite old feeling and very sterile. WRWA seems modern and new. I was proud of our airport.

true. i had to laugh though a couple of times.

When it was under construction the drop off points were in front of what looked like lean-to shanties (plywood structures). hardly the image of an "World Airport" (more of a Third-World Airport)

The second was when we were seated in the waiting area at the end of the terminal at gate #2 and looking back up the concourse, it appeared that Okies can't count very well. Look at the map posted above...even gate numbers on one side, odds on the other BUT they aren't in numerical order when viewed looking down the concourse...

It goes 4, 3, 6, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11 (what happened to 7?) then the odd numbers are missing entirely further down...

Well that makes sense because Pops food is mediocre.

Not sure if the one time I went who had it, the food was ok, but nothing to write home about. It was comfort food but done 'upscale" which means they nearly destroyed it in the process. Just my observation based on a very limited experience. your mileage may vary. i still thought it was a neat place and bout a hoodie sweatshirt that I wear often ...well not NOW, but when weather appropriate...LOL

    Default Pop's in Bricktown

I saw an announcement on Bricktowns Facebook Page yesterday that Pop's is opening a Bricktown location. The rendering showed it in the first floor of the candy company building next to the Banjo Museum. does anyone have any other information on it?. I think they could make a great addition to Bricktown. Thoughts
