Thread: Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale

  1. Default Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale

I am looking for Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale in cans. We found it in Dallas but haven't seen it here. I'm addicted, so if you happen to find a place that sells it, please post it. Also my son likes Mr Pibb in cans. It can be diet or regular. If you happen to find that anywhere, please let me know. Some things you just can't find here in OKC.

Don't know about the diet part, but I have seen the brand at Crest.

I will keep my eyes peeled (ugh...where did that expression come from?) for them--I LOVE Canada Dry!

I'd love to find some too!

I'm type 1 diabetic, and before I was diagnosed it was my favorite drink. Haven't had it for 3 years or so. Been craving it a lot lately!

  5. Default Re: Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale

I have looked for this before but never found it... I just assumed diet didn't exist from Canada Dry.

Some of the Sam's Choice (Wal-mart store brand) are spot on to many of the name brand sodas. Personally think Coke bottels it since many of their store brand stuff is made by the name brand manufacturer. Considerably cheaper. I believe they have a Mr. Pibb equivalent, know they have a Dr. Pepper one (Dr. Thunder). Not sure about Diet varieties. But I almost exclusively by their version of caffeine free diet coke (taste nearly identical). taste is a very subjective thing so your mileage may vary but it is worth a shot. I will check out Buy for Less the next time I am in there and report back about the Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale (have seen that brand before).

We bought the diet Canada Dry ginger ale in Dallas recently, so we know it exists. We just can't find it here at home.

    Buy For Less.
    All Locations.
    In OKC Metro.

  9. Default Re: Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale

I'll have to check again. We went to the one on the NW Expressway last night and they didn't have it. We'll try another location.

Back when I worked for Wal Mart, the shipping labels on the boxes of Sams Choice pop siad it was manufactured by Cott Beverage.

Here is the link to the Cott website, if you look at there products you will see especially the 12 packs of cans the box looks almost identical in shape to the Sams Choice 12 packs http://www.cott.com/

Thanks for the info. Cott has done an excellent job duplicating Diet Coke. Hats off to them. Even Pepsi finally figured it out with Pepsi One (but I haven't found it in fountains yet). Tried Pepsi Max at KFC and they may have it mixed wrong, but it wasn't anything like Coke Zero (which is nearly identical to Diet Coke anyway..at least in the bottles/can, fountains vary).

Remember comparing the ingredient list when Zero first hit the shelves and it was identical (the last 2 items were switched). Then shortly they were using NutraSweet in one and Splenda in the other. Not sure what it is now.

Buy 4 Less @ Portland & NW Exrpessway (NO)
    Wal-Mart Market @ 23rd & MacArthur (NO)
    Crest @ 23rd & Meridian (NO)

However, I did notice at Crest they do carry Vernor's Diet Ginger Soda in Cans ($2.50/6 pack). Don't have any idea on taste difference between Canada Dry & Vernor's or what the difference is between "Ginger Ale" & "Ginger Soda" (from reading the ingredient list there didn't seem to be much, and they were located with the other Ginger Ale products).

Noticed that Canada Dry is bottled by the Dr. Pepper/7-Up out of Texas and the guy at Crest said he would have to ask the Coca-Cola rep about it as they are the ones that stock it here locally.

Also, may want to ask your regular grocer about getting it in, some stores will do that (may have to but a case, but if you are addicted to it, that may not be an issue...LOL)

Also, I am thinking that Mr. Pibb isn't available in this market & not sure what Mr. Pibb Xtra is (have seen that someplace but not sure if it was here or elsewhere). Mr. Pibb is a Coke product so may have to ask them about it.

It is not at the Buy For Less on Penn and 23rd and 36th and Western... I'm not sure the poster above knows what he is talking about.

I can't stand Vernon's diet ginger. I have tried it on more than one occasion and actually never finished a can. I will drink Diet Shasta Ginger Ale before I drink Vernon's... IMHO.

Everything was correct (based on what I personally observed and was told by employees)...what part are you unsure about? or are you talking about a previous poster that said it was available at all buy 4 Less locations? if so, my apologies.

Taste is a very subjective thing and like I said, i have no idea how Vernor's compares to Canada Dry, just noticed that it was the only Diet Ginger Ale that I found of any brand at the stores/locations i mentioned. And threw it out there as a suggestion is all. I haven't found a store yet that met all of the criteria she wanted (Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale in cans). I looked at the Shasta line and while they had many diet drinks in cans, ginger ale wasn't one of them available at the stores I was at.

Since we're talking about soda, has anyone ever seen Schweppes lemonade for sale in the US? It's the first thing I buy when I get to England (McVittie's digestive biscuits shortly thereafter) and I cannot find it anywhere here.

Sorry about that. Yes I was talking about the above poster who made the blanketed statement about Buy For Less.... I wasted my time driving all over to look for it at Buy For Less and probably would have went to the one you checked out if I didn't read your post. As for Vernon's I was just giving my opinion.... I probably wouldn't even have shared my opinion but it doesn't taste like any other Ginger Ale I have ever had. I am actually curious about others opinion on Vernon's who enjoy Canada Dry....

Please accept my sincere apologies for being wrong.
Apparently, Buy For Less only USED to carry it . . .

(And please don't mistake either mention of Buy For Less as a plug for that grocery chain:
Personally, I am disappointed that you can't get Old Milwaukee at Buy For Less anymore.)

You are right: Vernor's doesn't taste like any other Ginger Ale.
In fact, I'm surprised that labeling laws allow them to put "Ginger Ale" on the bottle--or, more specifically, the can.

We always used to have Vernor's in the refrigerator when I was a kid.
It's toxic flavor was the only way for dad to ensure that there would be a mixer in there for his weekly "highball"...

BTW: I'm not sure what calling plan you might have, but my experience has been that picking up the phone and calling (rather than driving) involves a lot less cost (in terms of gasoline and traffic headaches). Especially if it is a local call.

I was in a Buy For Less, just yesterday, and I was looking for some Pita bread [a.k.a. "pocket bread"] into which to put some of an experimental pork creation I was planning to make for supper. I asked one of the crew who seemed to have something to do with stocking or inventory-ing the shelves if there was a chance they had pita bread.

"Peter bread?" she asked even though she was apparently not from Boston.

"No, Pita bread . . ." I said " . . . like used in a gyro (pronounced "yeer-oh") . . ?" while searching her eyes for any trace of understanding what I was talking about. The muted side to side head shaking and shoulder shrug led me to say, "I'll just use some tortillas . . ."

I would have missed all that by making a phone call, so I guess I was wrong about that suggestion too.

LOL, understand about the "Peter Bread"! (but I can imagine something similar happening by phone). When in Crest was asking about the Ginger Ale and the employee kept trying to send me over to produce. I kept saying it is a beverage, a soda and finally gave up and went looking for myself.

RadicalModerate: maybe that is why Vernor's calls theirs Ginger Soda (instead of ale)...LOL???

Did see canned Shasta Diet Ginger Ale @ the Buy 4 Less on Penn & Hefner (4/$1). An employee swore he saw the Diet Canada Dry, but they don't seem to have it now.
