Next is going to be the two other boathouses, which would free up the main plaza area off Lincoln, right?
The only other major thing in that area is the concrete bleachers/steps going along the the entire north bank along the boathouses. Not sure if that will be done now since they are doing dirt work anyway, if that will be done with the stadium on the south side or some random time later (in either of the later two cases they will likely put sod down now until they get around to it like they did on the east side of the devon boathouse). Their will also be a fire pit and video screen by it but none of the renderings really show these two but these two seem like they will not affect timeline hardly.

Where will a fire pit be located?

They were kind of vague, Mike Knopp (the executive director of the boathouse foundation) has also mentioned their being one a few times but never going into any real details as far as I know.

Community activities planned at the finish line tower will include gatherings on the tower plaza, complete with fire pit and an outdoor video screen.
Some of the renderings do have screens that are fairly large to project video from parts of the course you would not have good visibility from or to conduct interviews, like a small drive-in theater. Mounting cameras to the light poles has been disused.

That first shot is awesome, just wish it wasn't so blurry.

Nice pics! Any word on when the other 2 boathouses might get going? It seems like they were close to being fully funded a while ago...

The have not stated any dates in the river development meetings, OU's was fully funded a few months ago and what was expected to be the final blueprints had been submitted to OU in the last month or two, the UCO one is now being mentioned as over 3/4 funded and they still say they expect it to be be fully funded by the end of the summer.

Very cool..and I can't wait to see all 3 boathouses down there! And if everything else keeps the momentum, this place is going to be so freaking cool!

anybody think that a housing development for the rowers who are here specifically for Olympic training could be built on the river front?

I think that would be an amazing addition with maybe a midrise apt complex and I'm sure the would be some kind of federal grant since it would be for Olympic athletes housing.

    Any thoughts?

Yes. That would be awesome! Might spur more residential and other development too...

The MAPS 3 River Subcommittee just approved a contract with Rand Elliott to design the windscreen that will go on the south side of the river.

Also, they are moving along with the overhead lighting between the Byers and I-35 bridges and it should be installed by next summer.

How does a MAPS 3 subcommittee "approve" a contract ... can a subcommittee do more than recommend?

Should have said they recommended approving the contract.

However, I'm sure with their recommendation the final approval is a formality.

Is there a rendering of the lights available?

There are just pole lights like you'd see at any stadium.

About 10 on both sides of the river.

Oh ok. Wasn't sure exactly what type of lighting (festive, etc.) we were talking about.

They posted some documents showing some newer info on construction of the grounds around the boathouses and what looks to be an early concept for the whitewater facility on the Thursday Jun 16, 2011 1:30 PM Board of Adjustment meeting item D 10 http://www.okc.gov/AgendaPub/mtgview...doctype=AGENDA

I would link to the actual document but the link would be giving a 404 error within an hour.

Looks like the facility would go at the east end of boathouse row (the far right side of the second image):

Judging by those two pics, somebody's boathouse is gonna have to go bye bye (on the far east end, the tba triangle, that being okcu) cause that's not all going to be able to occupy the same space along the edge of the river.

With all the cool boathouses being built and proposed for Boathouse Row, I really hope they demolish the cotton gin and the rock climbing venue. It makes it look dirty and detracts from the architecture of the soon to be finish line and the boathouse's themselves. It needs to be new and modern!!

The lower drawing looks to be more recent as items constructed in the last few months are labeled as existing on it and overlays precisely with a current map, the whitewater drawings has some of the odot construction drawn in the wrong places by at least a few hundred feet.

I am not sure which college's boathouse your saying would be gone, okcu's is the blue triangle one west of all the other college ones.
