Went to Mama Roja's.....the place was packed by 4:30 in the afternoon

I was reminded of what it was celebrating and as Leno wondered, what's the big deal about defeating the French?

I took a somewhat mindless stroll from my auto mech's shop to my house. Dinna really start out meaning to do that.

I was intending to hit a nearby rib place and invite a friend to join me, figuring a ribs for ride swap was something he might enjoy. But, a nice breeze and a bit of daydreaming set in during the walk. Next thing I knew, I not only had blown on past the rib place, I was quite a bit closer to the house than I was to the ribs. I almost backtracked anyway, but decided to just wander on home.

Enjoyed a margherita pizza from Pisa by the Slice.

Went by Iguana downtown, but too many people for my taste. Went with two other couples to 1492 and had a delicious dinner (split the Taquitas de Cameron [sp] with the wife) and $3 margaritas and mojitos!

Going tonight for a Seis de Mayo celebration in Edmond to be catered by Ted's and complete with a frozen margarita machine and a Bin Ladin piñata (I personally don't care if anyone thinks that is tacky).

Nothing, I typically don't celebrate random, regional holidays of Mexico. I wonder if the Mexicans do anything for Columbus Day.

Not even Mexicans celebrate Cinco de Mayo. America's fascination with Cinco de Mayo puzzles me. To me it has just turned into a huge marketing gimmick to get people to party and drink Mexican beer and eat Mexican food.

I see nothing wrong with it at all. St. Patrick's Day is a big event for marketing in the US also. If it's fun for people, why knock it.

I don't recall hearing anything about Cinco de Mayo until Corona started marketing it as kind of a "Mexican St. Patrick's Day" in the US in the mid-80's. My wife is Hispanic and she knew nothing about it being from West Texas. It is a minor holiday in the state of Puebla to celebrate a win over French troops in that state. Most of Mexico doesn't celebrate it but it has become somewhat of a Mexican Heritage Day in the US since the Corona marketing campaign.

One day of every month ought to be set aside, and given a cutesy name, just to encourage the consumption of hard drink instead of beer. That celebratory day should, of course, always be the 5th.

metro you are so funny when you state things that dont even make since "I wonder if the Mexicans do anything for Columbus Day" lol cinco de mayo isnt even a authentic from mexico holiday.. And by the way im Mexican American and I teach my kids about Columbus Day ( which actually lief ericson came to discover america-the new world 5 centeries before Columbus lol). How can you say he discovered something when there was already a large number of people living at that location lol. Its like me saying I just discovered Piedmont, now all you long time residence need to leave...lol to funny some of these american holidays lol
