Thread: Devon Energy Center

I guess Steve was talking about this, when he said we will love set to appear in Sunday's business section?

I mean Devon Energy Center is cool and all, but how many articles do you need to write about it, I am starting to get burned out on it

I wish they took pictures of the almost completed floors.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't today Saturday? I don't think this would have been what he was eluding to.

It's cool Steve got to take a ride to the top of the building. It's nice to have something new like this once in a while.

The date of the article is April 17th, and Sunday stories are usually posted Saturday night..., and if you actually go to newsok.com website, you won't find article anywhere, you have to have exact web address, so my guess this article is not "live",but queued to go live sometime tonight...I found article via Google

Ah, Sorry. Well if this is what he was referring to then it certainly is a letdown compared to what I was expecting. I assumed it had to do with a new development.

These shots from inside of the building would go great with what I've done so far. Maybe someday in the future... *crosses fingers*

I first saw this article early this morning around 2am. It is still visible on Steve's blog page. And... it's a cool story. Good details and foreshadowing. Being that I view this particular thread everyday, and I crane my neck and view the tower everything single time I pass or approach it on the freeway... I can hardly say that I'm burned out on it. Great story Steve. Wish I could've taken the tour!

You are probably the only poster here who is burned out on it. That's why we keep coming to this thread. This is a nice update even if it's not anything particularly new or startling. At least there was a confirmation about the restaurant that we've been discussing.

It is a map of the visibility areas for the tower.
The red areas on the map are the ares where you would be able to seethe tower at that location. This is all assuming you are 6 feet tall and if there are no trees or buildings in the way, topography is included. I chose the building height to be 825 feet for this map because I figured you would actually want to be able to see the building and not just the very top. Oh and the radius of the circle is 36 miles, not that you can actually see that far, but I thought I would extend it out that far.

Does anyone know the name of the company that is supplying the exterior glass?

Umm, no he's not. And actually, I just think G.Walker is just a bit disappointed, Slackmeyer did say there would be something exciting in this Sunday's paper. If this is what that story was, then his word held a lot more excitement than what I read. It's just an update that we've read before and a restaurant isn't anything radical; there has been restaurants opening up all over the downtown area.

Anyways. Glad to see the tower at 41 stories. It's almost topped out, and I'm impatiently waiting for the crown to be constructed.

Hola OKC! I was in your fine town, two years ago, and EVERYONE was very friendly, and helpful. Just made an OKC Talk account to say congrats on the Devon Tower. I was hoping to see it going up, when I was there, but I was obviously there too soon. I live in Denver and wish they would build one of those here! Our "big three," the three over 700 feet, are getting a little long in the tooth. Coming into the city from the north, Denver looks exactly the same as it did in 1985.

Anyway, I can't get out of here without mentioning the Thunder!!! Don't get too excited OKC, the Nugs are looking pretty tough! LOL...We're screwed, I think. Really hoping we would end up playing Dallas. K-Perkins is a really big dude, and a terrible match-up. Same thing with Durant. We'll see. Good luck, Oklahoma City...You have plenty to be excited about and proud of. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that. It really couldn't happen to nicer and more deserving people.

The bombing memorial was as fantastic as something like that can be. Far more moving than the "new" WW2 memorial in Washington D.C. At least, in my opinion.

    All the best,

    Mike

Thanks Mike! Always refreshing to hear a nice outside perspective on our city.

ColoradoMike, Welcome to the forum! We appreciate the kind comments. You should make another trip to OKC to see the tower once it's complete and lit up, it's definitely something special for OKC! Not nearly as special as our beloved Thunder winning our first playoff series against the Nuggets tho! ;-) Lol. You said you were hoping to see the Devon Tower, How about coming down in the next week or so and going to Game 5 of the Thunder/Nuggets. Lol. You FOR SURE need to experience a playoff game in the Thunderdome! INSANE!!!!

It's been two years, this month, since I've been in Denver but I'm flying out there tomorrow. Been too long since I've seen the mountains. Too bad the weather is looking lousy. I wanted to get some video downtown. I have only been down there once, and it was in the middle of the night. Glad you like OKC, and it's only going to get better.

Very cool map. I know from the upper decks of OU's stadium the tower is clearly visible.

Please explain to me why anyone who is burned out on stories about the Devon Tower would bother coming to this thread to make comments about the tower. I can understand why someone who was expecting some new exciting story might be a little disappointed but it's not going to be Christmas every day. LOL
And I don't think you can equate the opening of an IHOP in Bricktown to a potentially iconic restaurant 50 floors above OKC. If it's decent, it will be a true destination restaurant.

For thoseof you traveling south on the daily commute, you can see the tower from May and 2nd (164th)! If my phone had a better cam I would snap a shot.
