That was the "Big Beef" and it was great. Their lunchtime special basket, with a fried lemon pie included, was my favorite there...
It was their chopped beef sandwich on a bun, french fries, a drink, and the pie. Wish I could have one right now...
Big Beef was in a house at that then they built the new place.
What was the place on N.W. Expressway, north side, near Grand?
I'm drawing a blank unless you are talking about N. Western. Looking at a map, that's really close to Grand Blvd and N. W. Expressway. There was a Two Pesos that became Portabellos(sp) and is now Deep Fork Grill. My first thought was The Patio but they were on the South edge of N. W. Expressway. I have a feeling I'm wrong but I'm having a problem visualizing the location.

Could have been, but the Crockett's that I remember was at May and Britton Road, behind the quick-lube place on the northeast corner. I do remember there were several others, but not where they were. Another place, not BBQ, near Baptist Hospital was Across The Street.
Jim,
I went to "Across The Street" too. But Crocketts was there. I ate there fairly often. I think it might have been the same building. There were better barbecue places but it was decent. You picked up a tray and slid it over the rails while telling the servers what you wanted. And since this is the "Restaurants that have closed" thread, one of the barbecue places I really enjoyed was Portland Barbecue at 23rd and North Portland. Their hot beans were really good and their chopped brisket was excellent. They also re-introduced pork to OKC.

No, this was a BBQ restaurant (I didn't care for Crockett's in OKC)
It was a house and there was a sign that said BBQ. It may have
started with an S.
Someone brought a reverse phone book to Coit's once and Soonergirl,
Frisky and I looked at it for 2 hours. I'll bet it's in that. Circa 1970.
Crockett's might have been the building where Schlottky's is now. Across the Street was next door to Highlander Bowl (now Conn's).
Wasn't it Earl's?
For some reason I was thinking Across The Street was on the corner of 39th and Ann Arbor. But I was young when we went there.
I think there was one there, also. It was a local chain.
There was a pancake place on about 30th & N Lincoln back in the 60's, had silver dollar pancakes...anyone remember the name of it? Little Johns or something like that?
Also, Cattle Rustlers on I35 was pretty good when they first opened, loved their sourdough bread.
Here's a (long) list I have posted of OKC restaurants in operation somewhere around 1990-1994. I wish I could pinpoint the year. Maybe by looking at some of these you could help. Zio's in Bricktown isn't listed yet for example - so knowing when they opened would help some, but I don't remember. It's a long list with so many now forgotten Oklahoma City restaurants.
OKC Restaurants (circa 1990-1994?)
A trip down memory lane from 20 years ago or so.
Can anybody get closer to a year with my list of OKC restaurants ('90-'94)? Maybe one is on the list that didn't open until '92, one that was gone by '92, etc.? The list is from an old restaurant suppliers catalog. I'm pretty sure by looking at the list that it's somewhere between 1990 and 1994. It's a long list, but it will jar your memory with some names you've probably forgotten - it sure did with me. Fun just to browse...
I posted the list here:

Maybe I should have made this great list a thread of its own. Somebody help me narrow down when this list of OKC restaurants was made. It's about 20 years old ('90-'94). I posted it at the link below. A fun browse. Lots of "oh, yeah, I had completely forgotten about...."
