Thread: Mobile App for OKCTalk coming

  1. #1

Default Mobile App for OKCTalk coming

vBulletin is close to releasing an app builder for both the iPhone and Android platforms.

As soon as they do (supposedly later this quarter) we will do our best to get an OKCTalk app out there.

The applications would be free to the user.

Will post more when we have a specific date in mind.

As if my phone battery doesn't die fast enough. I need to invent a solar phone charger that fits on top of a hat.

Yes, this will be nice, since I usually access this site through my phone.

Does this include the Epic? Evo? Any love for Sprint?

Those are both Android phones, so they ought to be covered.

I don't think I've ever used this forum on anything other an a mobile device.

I have, a grand total of three times, of course, I've only been a member for a month...

This forum looks beautiful on the iPad. In landscape, It's perfect.

Tapatalk is very popular and it's very easy for vBulletin forum-owners to install the plug-in. Of course, as Pete mentioned, it's also pretty easy to use Tapatalk or something else to make a forum-specific app. That sounds good!

Pete, what about using that Twitter account for announcements and such? It could be a "go-to" place for status updates if the forum is down, a place to post links to hot threads, etc. I'd follow and a lot of Oklahoma City would as well since it's OKC specific. It could drive some new traffic. Just a thought.

I really like the new forum layout, too. Good job!

What are the advantages of a specific mobile app? I'm accessing the site right now on my iPad and also use my android phone. The only disadvantage is apples stupid predictive text. Not bashing the idea, just trying to see the benefit of the extra effort. Most mobile devices you can make your own icons and link to a page, which is what I have set up for one touch access to our favorite site.

Tapatalk costs the user $2.99 wherein our vB app would be free.

The main purpose is to create a format best suited for smaller screens. Fonts would be bigger, the summary pages would be better organized, etc.

Yeah, I guess if you want it more in an "RSS layout". pple lets you do it for free on your device though. Don't get me wrong Pete, I think you go beyond necessary for us, but trying to see the ROI/benefit. I'm very familiar with mobile apps, and have worked with some local app building companies on projects. The site looks fine already on my iPad and 1st gen Anroid phone. I suppose if we could figure out how to incorporate some Augmented Reality into the app (coupled with paid mobile ads clicked on if a user was interested in more info on a place of interest while using the AR feature), that would be AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Blackberry has a very low rate of app users compared to iOS and android. If you want apps, don't use a blackberry

This is why I wish I lived in OKC. I would like to be involved in doing stuff like that. It would be cool to have an OKC app or layers on LAYAR.

I mentioned this app a few months ago to Pete. I also use iPad to view the site at work. I'm actually selling it this week for iPad 2.

UnFrSaKn - does it post the same thing 3 times out of the box or is that a feature you have to pay extra for?

  24. Default Re: Mobile App for OKCTalk coming

Nope, don't use it to post anything until there's an app made for it. #21 and #22 should be deleted.
