Thread: GiGi's Cupcakes

    Default GiGi's Cupcakes

Went by GiGi's new years eve (May and Memorial) and what a place it turned out to be. This is easily the best cupcake place in the city area. It was obvious just from looking at the cupcakes that they were more professionally done than the other options in the city. Lots of flavor options.

This is a new post. Customer Appreciation at Gigi's Cupcakes. $2.00 cupcakes all day Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Offer applies to same day orders only.

Just curious, what other cupcake places have you tried?

Here is something that was in the DO. I have to admit, they look really good and the presentation is great!

I've heard from three other friends that have tried several other places and they say GiGi's is the best they've had. I hope to try them in the next week or so.

I tried two cupcakes the banana one with chocolate ganache and the dark chocolate one and they were both EXTREMELY dry and tasted a day or two old. My friend went back the next week to give them another chance and said it was just as gross. We won't be going back, they do not know how to bake!

I've gone about 3 times now to their location at May/Memorial, and each time have been extremely impressed. In fact, I'd go along with Edmond Earl to say these are the best I've had in OKC (and yes, I've been to both SaraSara and C&P, and on MULTIPLE occasions. I've also been to Cupcakes a GoGo at Second and Santa Fe in Edmond.)

I've tried their chocolate chocolate chip, Wedding Cake and Grasshopper cupcakes (Grasshopper was my favorite, made with Andes milk chocolate mints). All three were rich, moist and of course, had great icing. The Wedding Cake was my least favorite as the white cake in general didn't hold up as much as the chocolate cakes did. I really want to try their Spumoni and Kentucky Bourbon, as well as a few others. They have daily specials and rotate their menu seasonally, so there is always something new to try.

My ONLY disappointment is that they are a FRANCHISE, and not a true locally-owned place.

In ranking, in order of best to worst, I'd say:

    1. GiGi's
    2. Cuppies and Joe
    3. Sara Sara / Cupcakes to Go tie

I've not tried Pinkitzel or any of the other cupcake places around.

I don't understand all the issues with franchises. They are some of the best ran, typically standard recipes so you get what you get at the other locations. Most franchise places are owned by a local business person, its just a chain name to garner bigger bang for their advertising bucks. People that run from franchise stores are just telling themselves they are helping the small biz owners, when in all actuality, they are ignoring their next door neighbor who might own the local franchise shop. Just saying....

Had GiGi's for the first time last night. The lady that owns the Downtown Tag Agency brought my wife and I the Coffee Bean and the Grasshopper cupcakes.

I liked the cake - very spongy and moist. I've always considered myself a frosting guy, but I honestly could not eat much of their frosting. It was very dense and rich. The Grasshopper frosting tasted like I was eating mint toothpaste. Normally my wife adds half of her frosting to mine, but I had to remove most of my frosting or I was going to be sick.

Those were probably not the flavors we would have picked out, so I'm gonna give them another try in person since the cake itself was so good.

*On a side note. We were in Sam's Club the other day and they were doing a fundraiser and selling their cupcakes for a $1 donation. The wife and I were shocked how good Sam's cupcakes were and much cheaper!

We are fans of GiGi's. Most enjoyed coconut cupcake--cake was moist and full of coconut--and a cupcake I believe called strawberries and cream. One I have enjoyed less was a chocolate variety with a chocolate chip topping.

Good thing GiGi's is not near the house nor office.

So how much would a bakers dozen of GiGi's cupcakes cost?

Just wanted to mention that Gigi's has a Tuesday special and all cupcakes are $2.00. It starts today, July 8th, 2014. They really do have the best cupcakes in town.
