Thread: Devon Energy Center

With the completion of the 32nd floor (33rd is underway) I have the building height at 513 feet.

  2. Default Re: Devon Energy Center (Devon Tower)

One could argue that technically, Devon is the tallest in the state "under construction" while BoK and Chase are still the tallest "completed" buildings in their cities. Why such a hurry to rip the titles away? It will happen soon enuf and yes, I can be a thorny geek.

  3. Default Re: Devon Energy Center (Devon Tower)

Well if that 513 figure is correct (give or take a few inches), that TIES Devon with Mid-Continent for 4th tallest in the state. Also, Devon will surpass the First Place Tower in Tulsa (516 ft.) with just the addition of the next floor!! Then just the other two to pass up which should happen sometime around late spring if the rate of construction stays about the same. THANX DEVON for helping breathe life back into OKC....and the state for that matter!!!

And you'll have to excuse some of us for being a bit over-technical and over-excited, "earlywinegareth". I know I sounds like I'm gona wet my pants when Devon finally surpasses BOK. But besides us finally getting a major professional sports team to be nationally recognized by, OKC was long overdue for some notoriety. Tired of travelling to other states and people asking me silly questions like "Do yall have vehicles there, or do yall still ride around on horses?"....and "Do they still have wild-west style shoot-outs there?"....or "Oklahoma??!! Wheres that at and whats there to do out there?" Now, with all the new excitement and growth going on here, maybe I can shut up some of my out-of-state, smart-ass friends for once....and without having to mention the bombing of the Murrah building anymore. And yes, there ARE alot of narrow-minded idiots around the country that think the U.S. only consists of New York, California, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, and maybe just a few other places. So again, excuse some of us if we seem to be a bit over-excited about the small details of the new life flourishing in our city (and state).

I can't believe this thing is only half way done. Just the height it is now makes a huge impact on our skyline!!

Tell you what. Once the tower is finished, and you get anymore of those asinine questions, just send them an image of a cowboy superimposed in front of the Devon tower. That should shut them up, and if it doesn't who cares anyway.

Just got in from being downtown all afternoon. Had a nice walk around and got some nice shots of various projects. Will get some posted as soon I sort them out. Also some new shots from a distance of the skyline. I see the glass is completed up to the 24th floor and partially complete on the 25th if that gives any idea on height.

Off topic a bit but wanted some thoughts on this building. Planned for Louisville, KY. called Museum Plaza.

  10. Default Re: Devon Tower: Officially Under Construction

I'm sure no one needs a reminder of how fast this thing is going up, but for those who would like a little perspective, here are the pictures I took one year ago today.

I've seen pictures before of that Louisville proposal. It reminds me of an offshore oil platform.

    Louisville structure rendering:

    Inception.
Creative yet unaesthetic to me. High tide must be terrible there.

It looks like they are trying to get films based in Louisville and this would be filmed as the oppressive government or corporation's headquarters.

The Louisville project has been mentioned more than once before, its also been shelved several years ago.

Much to the delight of people in Louisville I'm sure.

So wait... I thought the Chase building (the tallest in OKC), was 36 floors? How does Devon having 32 floors (working on the 33rd now) make it taller than the Chase building's 36 floors?

    Floor heights are bigger

Well for a building whose floors are higher, you would think that it would be more than just 350 feet taller than the Chase tower.

It is 70% taller than Chase but only has 32% more floors. By you logic the problem is with Chase. Chase should 650', not 500'.

This has been discussed on several occasions. The first floor (lobby) and the next five floors up have greater height than standard highrise floors. After the sixth or seventh floor, each floor going up have lower heights but are still more spread out than Chase. The top several floors of Devon's new tower will be spread out like floors 2-6. Thus, 50 stories, 850 feet.

Chase has a lobby with extended height, with each floor being the standard height until floor 32 or 33. Then the height is extended again... hence 36 floors, 500 feet tall. Very seldom does a skyscraper's number of floors match the building's height (50 floors, 500 feet).
    Continue the Renaissance!!!

Good idea....think I'll take your advice on that one. Thanx

I would like to see a comparison of square footage by single floor of various skyscrapers including the old and new WTC. The Devon tower is much thicker than Chase and just curious how it compares to others.
