Meaculpa...I still think it can only lead to problems for them and for regular people downtown if a wealthy district develops around the bums. Moving them out to the Fairgrounds (along Virginia and along General Pershing, that general area) helps everyone involved I think.

Yeah, I understand the move of both. But, in some ways it is kind of a bummer. I think the Linwood / 10 Penn area could be a really great inner city neighborhood again. But the neighborhood has been on a downward slide for years and I think that the locaion of West town and the Detox center will just firmly cement it as a "forgotten" corner of town. I really don't know why they didn't move all the homeless services over to the Eastern/Reno area, there's lots of land and almost NO residential of any kind.

You do kind of want homeless services in an area with people who are homeless.

I am rehabbing a house on 10th about half a block east of penn I feel like I am screwd on this investment since homeless housing is going in on 7th and virginia, Detox on linwood and virginia, salvation army on 10th and penn. Man whats next. I guess this area is doomed. Please make me feel better anyone.

Good thing your trying to be a flipper in C2S but you'll probably get screwed on those too. I have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale while your speculating.

Did you just recently purchase this property? the detox center moving to Linwood & Virginia was announced over a year ago and there's already a Salvation Amy @ NW 6th and Penn.

No I have had it for 2 years and just now got around to the rehab. It sits on south part of the street cannot miss it, best looking house on 10th which is not saying much.. I will keep it and rent it and pray something good happens over there in next 5 years or I could always turn it into a mission.

And perhaps the other neighborhoods around there that aren't as prestigious as Miller/Crestwood.

Drove by Linwood and virginia and they are getting the new Detox ready by June..I am sure the Antique store is feeling horrible since they tried to move away from them in Bricktown..

I remember when I was little my mom use to work here and she would let me go into her station and let me and my sister get whatever candy we liked and she would pay for it; I always got candy corn.

My dad still lives around the corner so I still go by here pretty often, about once a week normally, sometimes more. I can honestly say I won't miss it once it's gone; I still have the memories of it and that's a whole lot better than the dump it's turned into.

Thank goodness. I drove by it a few days ago and man it is in SERIOUS disrepair, of course it has been for some time though. That whole area is a HUGE eyesore but has lots of potential.

Goodbye to AMC and many childhood memories. It was the first place that I remember that required a membership card which you showed at a counter entering the store. Great toy section, a maze of a store that made exploring fun as a kid. Oh, how I would love to go back to 1965 - just for a few hours. Such a different time. But seriously, great memories to hear Mom ask, "Want to go to AMC with me?"

And while we know it must go, it's actually hard for many of us that grew up with AMC to say goodbye and see it turn to rubble.

I used to go there many times. I know a vendor there that is now at Old Paris. Does anyone know why and whose fault for the demise of this once popular glorious flea market? I am a bit sad that its Salvation Army moving in, but I hope they will at least set up a huge shopping store rather than wasting it on donations center and distribution truck stop.

How long will the demo take and the construction?

Btw, if any past vendors are reading this, check out the Golden Goose Flea Market! Always growing and plenty of building spaces to expand.

Just to clarify, the nostalgia for AMC that I was referring to was AMC the department store - not the flea market. Though I did go in there a time or two when it was a flea market. I found a precious first edition of 'The Call of the Wild' there for $5 at a bookseller booth that was real close to the entrance. I knew it had to be worth more than five bucks. I've since had it appraised for $1,800.00. I guess the guy just didn't know what he had.

I drove my the old AMC building today and it looks like the demolition has begun. The main entrance as well as the lawn and garden North entrance has the windows out and piles of debris in the parking lot.

Do you remember when the lawn and garden fenced in area had bicycles around the fencing for a short time every spring? Ribbons hanging off, balloons tied to them. A kid magnet driving by in 1965.

"Glorious" and "flea market" in the same sentence.

    That'd be a first.

How do you fill the shopping store without a donation center?

I'm not sure if Salvation Army works this way, too, but many Goodwill stores do not allow you to drop stuff off. They keep their drop-off locations and stores separate so they can distribute items according to inventory in stores.

Nope. The one south of I-40 has both in one massive building where all the trucks are and a big store, too. The one in MWC accept donations at their store.
