  2. Default Re: Flea Market sold

I was looking through commercial sales transactions and noticed the former flea market on 10th and Penn was sold to the Salvation Army of OK for $2.125million.

This is interesting considering Chesapeake recently bought their HQ on the SW corner of NW Expressway and Penn for about $2 million. I wonder what their plans are and if this will be their new HQ site?

That is a great location/facility for them. Probably a good move. I'm sure they'll fix it up a lot, too. It will be good for the Miller/Crestwood area.

Well, they have a retail store across the street. Hopefully they bulldoze the place and build new. That area could use it. I doubt it though, bet they remodel for offices and use most of it for warehousing/distribution.

Metro, thanks for the lease/sales postings.

I too think this could be a boost to the surrounding areas. I used to hate it when my mother would drag us to AMC all of the way from Edmond.

Anything there could be a huge improvement, all in all.

The 10-Penn area is poised for a major revitalization.

From what I've heard, the plan is to bulldoze most of the buildings, leaving some of the back secton (warehouse), then build new main office.

I believe the city is trying to buy the Salvation Army location in the Central Park area, just north of the old postal facility.

They may be looking to consolidate this into the 10th & Penn site.

Would be a good move, both for the Salvation Army and the NW 10th & Penn area.

This would have been a great location for a Wal-mart..

Where in Central Park is the Salvation Army? I know they just built a facility for a different non-profit at Memorial Park, but I can't place the Salvation Army around there. If anything, also sounds like an improvement for that area, as well.

Don't know the exact street but think it is at the base of the off ramp when going to the Ford (eastbound)?

on edit, google shows it at 5th & Harvey (the headquarters-501 South Harvey Avenue and the family shelter- 311 SW 5th)

Right across (North), from the Post Office, it's been there for at least 40 years that I know of.

Oooooooh. I thought you all meant Central Park as in the neighborhood around 30th and Shartel (the big area between Paseo and Crown Heights). LOL. You all mean Core2Shore/Unnamed Park. My misunderstanding..

Well Westtown will be near here so this location also makes sense.

I would rather see this moved over to Lincoln Blvd.

If it's nice.... We need Lincoln Blvd to be nice, and it should be, it could be a world class street/ district with some investment. Only OKC would let it get as bad as it got.

You put it rather bluntly, but yes, I agree that that is one of the motivations. I suspect that City Rescue Mission could be next...

I apologize, I thought we were talking politics.

Most likely, considering the homeless agencies are moving to West Town.

Ouch! I like the term brethren, better.

These are people and they have dignity.

There are bums, low-lifes and people that behave little better than animals in every socio-economic group, just as there are those that retain thier class & dignity (again, no matter what their economic or abode status).

Reminds me of an old Roseanne episode (think they had just won the lottery) and the line was "we are their worst nightmare, white-trash with money" (a line she repeated in real life when she was married to Tom Arnold).
