Southside OKC Memories....anyone?

I meant to say "Spaghetti Factory", do you think Mr. Samara might have plagiarized a little? Actually, it's good marketing if you can get away with it. Name recognition is really powerful. When you were "peeking" you were looking at the North part of restaurant/bar. That is what became the Prow Lounge. No women (well not many), several pool tables and a nice place to sit after work for a beer to wind down before going home. It was the working man's "Governer's Club". The Governer's Club was in Lincoln Plaza.

Thanks.... I never knew the name of the lounge. I "googled" Jake Samara which led me to this OKC talk.
Sounds as if Jake had owned several lounges. I know that Grandma worked for him as a waitress of course, at another location probably before the one on Lincoln.

Prunepicker, I decided to look around on the web and found a couple of links. One is a story of Jake Samara's public life and appears pretty accurate. It mentions a place on N. E. 23rd where the Sequoya building is now. It doesn't mention the one East of what is now I-35 so I wonder if maybe that was a Jack Sussman restaurant. The article does mention that Sussman was Jake's manager. I did find where Sussman was from Chicago but that doesn't mean that he came here from there. He probably was in New Orleans trying to make a living before coming to OKC. I enjoy the internet, but I know to take what I find with a grain of salt. The second link only mentions Sussy's once and indicates it was his first pizza restaurant and it was on 36th and Lincoln. I'm beginning to doubt that, now that I have learned about the Sequoya location. I didn't even know it existed.

Prunepicker, Very good! I would never have remembered that without help. Was he in financial trouble or just some other shady deal? Seems like the police couldn't find enough evidence to convict him though. Do you remember?

Did he not do time for insurance fraud at least 40 years ago? I was told that is how & why the N.E. 23rd business burned. I remember it and the south robinson locations the most. First time having pizza was on Robinson.

I don't remember that name. I remember the band but couldn't even tell you who was in it let alone what they played. I saw on the news the other night that Speedy West, Jr. is ill. He is the only one from Maya that I remember by name. They said that he has lung cancer and no insurance and there have been some benefit shows for him. Also Speedy West, Jr. and friends have recorded a song written years ago by one of his former bandmates that he said he wrote for & about Speedy.

Back in the early 60's somewhere around 59th and Penn area there was a burger joint that was in direct competition with McDonalds called the Burger Chef with 19 cent hamburgers, does anyone remember its exact location?

Also saw no mention of Jack's Steakhouse at 59th & Penn(NW corner) where kids got their choice of the candy selection after their meal?

There was a Burger Chef on S.W. 44th and S. Penn. I lived on the
southside in the 60's but don't remember a Burger Chef on S.W.
59th, not that it wasn't there.

Jack's Steakhouse has been mentioned quite often on these threads.
There are a few others that have to do with restaurants. Gen64
has put his salad dressing recipe on the board. It's something
like eye of newt, toe of frog, wool of bat, tongue of dog...
