Thread: Plumber

  1. Default Plumber

One of our toilets isn't working properly. I live in NW OKC. Does anyone recommend a good and reliable plumber? Given the weather, I thought I would hold on the call until Fri pm or Saturday. Thanks in advance and stay warm.

We use Water Boy's Plumbing. Chad is the owner/operator and we've had nothing but excellent service from him. He dresses professionally, is prompt, shows us exactly what he did, makes recommendations to avoid future problems and even took a look at additional concerns on an exterior faucet for no extra charge.

He's out of Norman but I believe services the whole metro.

He has over 30 reviews on AngiesList and an "A" rating.

May have a busted pipe or two here unfortunately, anyone have any alternate recommendations? Plumbers are going to be slammed for weeks after this storm. Especially once pipes start thawing out on Sat.

Also, Bates can you tell anything about his rates?

As for rates - I'm a cheapo and call around, so he must have had the best quote. Also, The two jobs he's done for us he gave me a quote up front so there wouldn't be any surprises. I believe he's the only plumber/electrician/etc. I've ever tipped because I felt he was charging less than he deserved.

    Sorry about the pipes.

I'm in an older small house and I fear busted pipes, so I put those radiant heaters in all the bathrooms, cover the exterior faucets with insulation and faucet covers and insulated my clothes washer hoses (after I noticed them freezing).

I'm not big into Internet subscription of any kind, but I really feel an AngiesList membership is money well spent. I inherently don't trust plumbers, electricians and mechanics, so the reviews on that site are well worth the piece of mind when calling someone new. I picked my plumbers, electricians, handyman and termite guys from their database and have always been happy.

Thanks for the tip, Brian. Good to know.

Two of my neighbors pipes burst yesterday. Both in their garages where their washing machines are.

One neighbor had never bothered to locate their water cut off valve in the house and it flood quite a bit as they didn't ever buy a tool to cut it off at the street either. The other actually had a water alarm on the floor behind their washing machine and knew within seconde there was a leak and also knew their cut off was in the master bathroom (and had a street tool in the garage) and saved themselves tons of damage. Pretty good lesson there!

Herman's Plumbing has usually been able to get to us pretty quickly. 732.0954 If you think it might be roots you could use Roto-Rooter. The OKC number is 681.2913 We used to live in a house with lots of old trees and the roots became a constant problem until a plumber told us to put about one cup or so of rock salt in the toilet once a week. Seems like it kept the roots cleared out.

Glad to hear you got your drain clear. The "only $140" sounds about right. Get a bag of rock salt and keep it in the bathroom cabinet and throw a cup in the toilet every once in awhile. Might help.

When used weekly the rock salt will work.
