    Anyone see in today's DO that Mayor Cornett filed for divorce?

    does divorces and marriages have to be listed in the paper, is it y choice, you would think if it was by choice it would bea private matter

    It's public record, also there was a small article on it

    Even if there is no article, the legal postings (court filings) are always posted in the paper. Same with birth announcements and death certificates.

    sad, i wouldnt want my divorce public, thats why i was asking if it had to be listed in the paper

    This should be a private matter. I know his lawyer as an aside, he's a good guy.

    If he were an average joe, blue collar or white collar, in any occupation that's outside the spotlight, it largely would be a private matter. Society on the whole takes a strong interest in the lives of those who live their life in the spotlight. Too strong in my opinion, but it's been that way as far back as I can remember, and then some.

    He's never been someone to make his family life into a public issue though. I disagree that public figures' entire private lives ought to disappear. Same goes for the Hon. Mayor as it does for Lindsay Lohan.

    While the divorce is public, I don't think it's a good idea to use the forum to speculate on private matters.
