Thread: Better than Eischen's?

    Default Better than Eischen's?

I had dinner at Railhead BBQ tonight just north of East Edmond.

The fried chicken might have been better than Eischen's and the BBQ was better than Steve's Rib of the last few years. It's kind of a hole in the wall but definitely worth it.

Railhead is on Douglas just a little bit north of Waterloo.....and no, I have no affiliation with Railhead. I just live in the area and was thrilled to discover this place.

    Better than Steve's Rib? Interesting.

I think Eischen's is overrated. I mean it's good, don't get me wrong, but people act like you'll have an orgasm when you eat it.....so needless to say I was disappointed when I didn't have one.

We used to go to Eischen's every month. But we stopped when the waiters threatened to call the cops on us because we made a joke about ordering pizza to tide us over while we waited on our order....AFTER WE'D BEEN WAITING AN HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES FOR OUR ORDER! Never more! If I want to get arrested, there's no reason to drive 45 minutes to get that accomplished. lol

The wait is the downside for sure but we found ordering their excellent chili cheese nachos with a pitcher or two of beer made the wait more bearable

Yeah, I was last there on a Sat afternoon, sat at the bar and practically had to tackle someone just to get a drink. The waitress came up and asked, "How many chickens and orders of okra?" I replied, "Do you have fries?" She said, "No honey, just okra, that's all. What is this your first time here or something?" Then laughed and walked off for about 10 mins.

When she came back, same question. We just ordered and it took over an hour to get our food and the whole time she kept walking by us and not refilling any water or anything. Then she'd stand on the side just talking to people.

Chicken was good but not worth the wait and attitude and really, there's better fried chicken out there. Hell KFC, Popeyes and Churches are all better IMO.

Eischen's chicken is good, but the service stinks (as noted above). I found a place on the way to Eischen's (sort of) in Piedmont called Chicken & Chops. The chicken is just as good IMO, but the service is much better. It's not nearly as crowded either. It can take some time to get your order there too, but I think it's because the chicken isn't cooked until you order it. I also love their okra. It's always crunchy. I hate mushy okra. They also have fried pork chops (per their name), but I wasn't impressed with those.

Where? Is it easy to find? I don't know my way around Piedmont at all.

Yeah, it's right off the main street. Back from the street a little bit.

I would love it if more of you would quit going to Okarche. Its impossible to get a table on the weekends after 6pm

I love hole in the wall restaurants and dont even mind long wait times, but i do hate when hole in the wall restaurants have rude waitresses who act as if the whole world owes them undying gratitude and tip money for their sorry service( its probably brought on because they prob earn near 100k and never have a shortage of customers). We had the same type of service at meers a couple of months ago during a slow afternoon, besides saying 'drink and order?' the waitress never talked, made eye contact, or checked up with me or my wife.

Hmm, we managed to get a long table for 15 at 6:30 last weekend. We had to vulture for it, and it ended up that half the table knew some people from our group so they even left us half a pitcher of beer, but we won out in the end. Patience is rewarded.

Our waitress last week was awesome. She took our food order early because it was so busy, and she helped us figure out how much we would need, and was there all night checking on us. They were never rude, even when we said we were waiting for a table to sit a large group. Whenever they had to get past us while we were standing and waiting, they always said excuse me and thanks.

I agree, either the waitresses are awesome or the complete opposite. As a whole going to eischens has always been a positive experience it just seems that at some hole in the wall places when the waitresses are having a bad day they like to make sure everyone knows it. :two cents:

Can't say we have ever had bad service at eischens either...seems to me the waitstaff are on the run all night long...all you can ask for in that environment

Agreed! The service at Eischen's sucks. Our waitress acted like she was doing us a favor with each request. Would hate to inconvenience the wait staff! Quite honestly, the fried chicken served on Fri and Sat nights at Anne's Chicken Fry on NW 39th is better than Eischen's anyway. We'll have to give Railhead a try as well.

I think that's the place that used to be in Kingston, OK. Their food is really good, and the only time I had a chop it was delicious. Good to know the location.

Perhaps, but I've never understand their obsession with okra.
Mama tried, but she was never able to persuade me that stuff should be considered edible.
Oh well, leaves more for those who savor it.

I was starting to think that I was the only person in the state that didn't care for okra. Nice to know I'm not alone.

My husband is a Bobo's fan. I just don't like the spicy taste. He loves it, so on nights we don't eat together, he goes over and gets his Bobo's, and enough extra to take to work for a day or 2.

Funny thing is that I never had okra until our family moved to Oklahoma. I love the stuff, either fried or pickled.

I visited my daughter in Seattle over Christmas, we found a small coffee/ice cream shop that sold "okra ice cream", didn't have the nerve, or stomach to try it!!
