How has nobody linked Steve's article to this yet?

I took a little video of today's demolition and some photos:

Unlike Chesapeake and/or Devon construction projects, this one by Sandridge is somewhat concerning. Unlike the fore mentioned companies, Sandridge is not nearly as financially stable. Further, they are under no obligations to build their new plaza. To say, it's their property. Once these buildings are gone and should Sandridge decide financially they need to wait before commencing with construction, these lots could potentially stay vacant for a very long time. While I've heard no discussion of holding off on the project, it does warrant some thought.

I wonder why Gooden PR hasn't responded to this thread yet.

Why should they? Their job is done. Sandridge was only interested in public perception when they were trying to get something done a lot of people didn't like. But that is now oil through the pipeline. Character is defined by what you do when you think no one is watching.

For what it's worth, looks like India Temple building won't be part of this initial demolition

I wish of all of the buildings they're demolishing, they'd save the India Temple Building and restore it.

Wish Blackburn would've stood up for preserving this one.

    Default Destruction Cam

Okay, figured we have construction cam we also need DEstruction cam... This can be merged with the existing Sandridge thread if needed. This is being aired by callmultiplier/fullnet communications, who is the 2nd floor of the BOK building.

    Cool! Albeit a bit depressing.

Are the other two buildings just east of this one on Robinson already down?

I don't believe so - I think this is the first one.

Is that building in front of the Chase Tower on the cam view coming down?!? Those windows look nasty...

Yes, that building is coming down and will be replaced by their fitness center.

  13. Default Re: Destruction Cam

I think they need to use a bigger wrecking ball. This process is taking forever.

  14. Default Re: Destruction Cam

(I am glad to see some lateral wrecking. They were just bumping it up and down on the top of it. Slow going.

(I can hear this from my office as I watch it on the screen. Nice. OK, enough post padding!)

This is the last building left on the west end of the SandRidge campus. The other two are already knocked down...I can see all this from my window across the street from this cam

    Thanks Casey!

You can tell how well-built those old buildings are, as it takes a lot of whacks with that wrecking ball to move much of anything.

Depressing. I hope Sandridge stays in business.

Thank gawd! That building is the beast and the fitness center I hope will be the beauty...

Thanks for the photo Casey... I didn't realize that building was almost completely down already. That corner is certainly going to look very different.

Also, the metal sculpture in front of the BOK building looks like part of the twisted debris from the demolition.

I have avoided posting in this thread because it so depressing to view the images and I have nothing positive to say. My animus for SandRidge is only expanding when I see these images, as well as my lack of respect for the Board of Adjustment, except for one of its members, and as well my lack of respect for the Downtown Design Review Committee, again, except for one of its members. That is all that I will have to say in this thread.

Well, not quite. I'll end it by saying, Holy Crap. SandRidge Energy will never be an Oklahoma City hero to me, even if it completes its project, for reasons stated more particularly elsewhere. Tom L. Ward is no Dean A. McGee, and I can only presume that he doesn't care that he badly pales in the comparison. And now I'm done in this thread.

Losing this building is causing me the most heartache, even more so than when India Temple bites the dust.

It has a lot of old-world charm, is historic and also helps create the Robinson urban Canyon. I know the first time I see the area in person I'll get sick all over again.

However, it is time to move on. I'm looking forward to watching all this develop and will keep an open mind, hoping it turns out all for the best.

Certainly, that particular area has been worn and almost completely abandoned for quite some time. It will be good to see some new construction and lots more people working in the area.

Another damn shame. OKC will never learn from the mistakes of the past. Some good ol boy was probably paid under the table so someone could get their way, which by the way we are known for. Time and time again you see newer apartments that were built in older parts of town and within 20-30 they are often boarded up and a bigger eyesore to the neighborhood. Look at the complex just a few blocks west of Classen on NW 30th. Newer is not always better. It's like tear down the old homes in Heritage Hills and but up some BRAND NEW Jim Walter Homes. Cause BRAND NEW IS BETTER Dubai we are not.

    Anyone have pictures?
