For a casual user it's an expensive toy. My son just started college and he said about 1/4 of the students in some of his classes have them. Several of his text books are available for iPad.
I just this morning ordered the new iPod Touch for my wife and I. If they would just put those features into the iPad (which they probably will next year) then I'd be thrilled.
Fuzzytoad - I did all that "justification" when ipads first came out to convince myself it was not a justifiable tool and entertainment device. Like I've noted before I'm very techno savvy and have several different computing devices. That said, once I used one none of those comparisons meant much.
Yeah, I don't even have one, but can see how it will revolutionize entire industries. Computing, Medical, Sales, Education and Technical Jobs. In 5 years from now, most people won't believe how they got by without one. I'm completely sold on one, now just looking for a good deal on a used one. Also an app called iFring lets you do video calls with Skype on it.
Brian, do you use 3G on yours or just wifi?
I went with wifi for a few reasons..... Initial price and I already have a mifi so I'd rather pay to allow multiple devices to connect to the Internet than to pay for only the iPad to connect. You will find much better deals used on the wifi version than the 3G. Both wifi versions I bought were being sold so they could get the 3G version.
I saw the reporter on Nightline two nights ago using one to show an interviewee some documents for comment.
I hardly pick up my laptop anymore since getting my iPad. I just never need it unless I'm ripping a dvd or something like that.
If anyone doesn't see the potential the iPad has, watch this 2 1/2 year old figure out how to use it in just a few minutes. Key moments at 1:30 and about 4 minutes into it. iPad, and iOS multi-touch type devices are the future of computing and numerous other activities. iPad and such are designed to mimic humans natural gestures and responses in a way that feels natural and almost effortless. Eventually the items will get smarter and do what we want by our thoughts or our eye movement. The technology is already there. Can't wait until we have translucent, foldable, even more portable iPad type devices in a few years (i.e. Minority Report).

Well Brian I broke down and bought a 32gb3g this weekend. Loving it so far. Wife even is digging it.
We use it for it's mapping/gps features on the lake, to find good places to eat and to post pics...... http://www.mobypicture.com/user/JohnTVokc/view/7420952
Nice boat, living large!
Wireless printing, multi tasking, and folders coming in November!!
I still don't get it, but to each their own I guess. I walked by the Apple Store in St. John's Town Center over the weekend and it was packed. I also went by CompUSA and took a look at the Lenova Idea Pad.
how could you not? read some of the business case studies on Apples website, Goldman Sachs, some hotel chain (can't remember which one), and companies are buying them like hotcakes. With industry specific apps it's super portable and you can type on it in virtually any position unlike a desktop or laptop. we will look back on this point in computer history as the end of the laptop dominating and the start of the shift change in how we compute.
If you buy a Hyundai Equus the owner's manual comes in an included iPad instead of a hard copy booklet.
Got mine two days ago. For someone that reads as many books as I do it is very nice to have a reader that also functions as a browser at work. that 2g cap is looking like a bit of a downer though
Two weeks out and i haven't broken a gig yet. It was just the initial loading of apps at my girlfriend's place without wifi that pushed it too fast. I don't think the cap will be an issue now, but I'll try to pu**** on the last day and see if it cuts me off.
I watch a bunch of streaming video (Netflix et cetera) on mine, so I'd likely go way over if I was using a capped 3g plan. My iPad is only WiFi so I tether it to my iPhone 4 for data when I'm not near a WiFi spot. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan on the phone.
