Youtube videos are fine, but I bought most of the re-mastered CDs last year and would rather hear the songs on my stereo system than the computer.

I'm waiting for Apple, the record company, not the computer maker, to release A Hard Day's Night, Help, Yellow Submarine, the Shea Stadium Concert, and Let It Be on Blu-Ray.

Is this actually in the works, or is this just wishful thinking? I would love to see this happen!

AFAIK it's just wishful thinking. I don't know why McCartney, Starkey, Ono and George Harrison's estate won't move on this. Last year's re-release of excellent re-masters of all of their albums was a hopeful sign though.

Prunepicker! As the resident Beatleologist, do you have any input on this?

Hard Day's Night is available on Blu in Canada.

Help was given a special edition DVD back in 2007 so a Blu-Ray release might be possible.

Yellow Submarine DVD is out of print but I would guess we might see it again on DVD and Blu as a tie-in with the 2012 remake.

Beatles at Shea has never had an official home video release of any kind and an official Blu-Ray seems unlikely.

Let It Be seems like it could go either way:

The film was released on VHS video, RCA SelectaVision videodisc and laserdisc in the early 1980s, but became out of print within a few years. The transfer to video was not considered high quality; in particular, the already-cropped theatrical version was again cropped to a 4:3 aspect ratio for television. The lack of availability has prompted considerable bootlegging of the film, first on VHS and later on DVD, derived from copies of the early 1980s releases.

The movie was remastered from the original 16 mm film negative by Apple in 1992, with a few of those scenes used in The Beatles Anthology documentary. After additional remastering, a DVD release was planned to accompany the 2003 release of Let It Be... Naked, including a second DVD of bonus material,[17] but it never materialized. In February 2007, Apple Corps' Neil Aspinall said, "The film was so controversial when it first came out. When we got halfway through restoring it, we looked at the outtakes and realized: this stuff is still controversial. It raised a lot of old issues."[1]

An anonymous industry source told the Daily Express in July 2008 that, according to Apple insiders, McCartney and Starr blocked the release of the film on DVD. The two were concerned about the effect on the band's "global brand ... if the public sees the darker side of the story. Neither Paul nor Ringo would feel comfortable publicising a film showing The Beatles getting on each other's nerves ... There’s all sorts of extra footage showing more squabbles but it’s unlikely it will ever see the light of day in Paul and Ringo’s lifetime.”[41] However, Apple has since confirmed that restoration work on the film has begun for future DVD release, but a definitive issue date has yet to be determined.

So hook the audio outputs from the computer to your stereo system, but while hoping the source isn't lacking or overly compressed in audio qualilty.

For sound quality MP3s cannot compete with CDs; CDs cannot compete with vinyl; vinyl cannot compete with 15 ips reel-to-reel. I have a reel-to-reel, but no Beatles in that format. I have most of the Beatles' American vinyl issues, but sometimes I'm lazy and like CDs' convenience.

thanks. i'd rather pop in my DVDs than watch a little youtube square.

i didn't see the revolution video on that list. some of them are just photo montages with the album's audio.

yellow submarine dvd from ebay will set you back about $80. i knew i should have bought it when i saw it in borders 10 years ago.

Apple starts selling Beatles songs on iTunes

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- It's been a long and winding road, but Apple finally began selling Beatles songs on iTunes on Tuesday.

Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) debuted iTunes in 2003, and it quickly became the world's No. 1 seller of digital music. But until now, The Beatles have been one of the last remaining holdouts, choosing instead to sell their music exclusively on CDs, cassette tapes and records.

Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO is said to be a Beatles fan, and has been in negotiations for years with EMI Group, the Beatles' record label, and Apple Corps, the Beatles' business group. But like all other Beatles fans, Jobs had to download tracks from a CD if he wanted to listen to to the British band's music on his iPod.

Apple is expected to make an announcement about the deal at 10 a.m. ET on its website, apple.com. Users who log into iTunes can already download Beatles tracks for sale.

I think they will be marketing complete sets with hearing aids for anyone who was around when these songs were written...hell--I was in Jr. High...they are old as time--but--still quite good, I must say...but--I am just a Fool On The Hill...
