I think its about 12 ft with the suspended ceiling. The height of the entire floor is 16ft. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is slightly above average.

If they kept going with the original height, every floor would have 16' ceilings, which makes no sense. once the load-bearing (taller) floors are done, they can make all the floors have 10' ceilings which is normal for an office.

Thunder that makes no design sense. The larger height for the lower 6 floors is for the rotunda because it is going to be a large open space. Of course the height of the tower can surpass 900' if all the floors were hugely spaced but that doesn't mean it's going to cost the same not to mention the increased heating/cool costs.

Well, since Devon produce natural gas, don't they have free gas to heat the building?

    Is that a serious question?

Its not free it takes energy and resources to get that oil and natural gas out of the ground. Even if they had a ridiculous amount of money to spend cooling and heating 18ft high floors, one of their PR goals is to look environmentally friendly.

Here is a quote for you Thunder:

You have completely misunderstood. I am not talking about the cost and resources to drill for oil and natural gas. I am talking about the standard bill that we all receive to pay for the use of gas. Devon don't have to pay for the use of gas. Just to make myself clear to jn1780, Devon do not send a bill out in the mail to Devon for gas bill.

Ever heard of OGE? Devon does not have a dedicated gas line from their well going to the Devon Tower. This is such juvenile logic Thunder.

Not my fault that the info was not available to me. I thought Devon caters to large companies and businesses.

Thunder: You might spend some time reading up on the difference between utility companies, oil and/or gas exploration companies, oil and/or gas service companies, and on and on. Devon will have a BIG utility bills to pay, just like the rest of us.

They could use LED or fiber optics and run the fiber vertically and it would illuminate the fins all the way up. That said, would love to see what the lighting consultant on this project has in mind and thier model to see its impact on the night skyline. (Ahhh if wishes were ponies....) I just want this buildings lighting scheme to be dramatic yet classy so as not to totally over power the rest of the city, but compliment and augment what we have. I have high hopes on this one!
The tube structures don't, at least, appear to serve any structual use. That's why I was wondering about esthetical purposes.

but more along Thunder's thoughtline, if Devon did maintain bigger fsr throughout the building - it could be of the more energy efficient design that the Hearst Corporation's new skyscraper in NYC (that's LEED Platinum if Im not mistaken). It has very large fsr and allows for lots of natural lighting and ventilation, uses recycled rainwater for cooling, green roof, etc etc. And if 18 feet was maintained, the tower could easily be a near supertall with only 50 floors. It's only 2 feet difference.

Let me get this straight - Devon is touting the energy efficiency of their building, a building that has it windows light up for no other reason than it looks cool?

  16. Default Re: Devon Tower: Officially Under Construction

Why not? At least their building will be energy efficient, and with a nifty and efficient LED lighting system, they'd also be the flashiest tower around.

All floors are load bearing...as it is a concrete structural system, yes each floor carries the load of the floors above it, or transfers the loads from the floors above it on down to the ground.

As mentioned the larger 20'-0" floors are kind of the "Grand Floors" Most likely areas for clients and visitors, and meetings etc...where an impression is needed. I have not looked at the programming of the spaces to be sure but that is what makes sense. Of course the First floor at 40'-0" is all about first impressions and circulation, after that the floors go on to a more normal Floor to floor height. Higher than many due to raised floor and drop ceilings. This will give the users a standard office feel, with more efficient and flexible cabling and often customized thermal comfort control on a cubicle by cubicle basis, by using underfloor distribution. (note the 20'-0" floors do not appear to be using the under floor distribution-note hanging HVAC ducts)

As for many of the more recent posts...there is little to say.

While I hope The Devon Tower has a great lighting scheme I hope its not over the top,The Duke energy tower in Charlotte goes crazy nuts with its lighting it looks good in Charloote but that kind of light show would not look good in OKC!Thats just my opinion!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8fiyNfMYoI or this crazy light show! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tplx2CIuHfc

AWESOME! Devon need to do something like that each time the Thunder scores! And the rainbow is really funny to do when OKC have one of those pride downtown. LOL

Devon, I hope you are paying attention! We need colors on this tower (look at above links in previous post).

^^No No we dont need anything that outlandish! If devon does have lighting like that then The rest of The DT skyline needs to step it up!

^^No doubt! The rendering in dmoor82's avatar shows that the rest of the DT skyline needs to step it up. We don't need an elaborate lighting system!

It wouldn't be too bad if they only had a light show 1 or 2 times a night. Of course this would increase the odds of drivers getting into accidents on the surrounding interstates and streets.

Nothing wrong with Devon celebrating something. I bet they can do something so fancy during December...beating those boring crosses on the other towers.
