Thread: Where to watch world cup games?

Default Where to watch world cup games?

So, where's the great places to watch the world cup, specifically the USA-England game this saturday?

Possibly wrong forum, but Food&Restaurants + Soccer = Goal

I've heard Sean Cummings is having a party, I would assume Republic with 50 billion tv's would be cool.. Where else?

Sean Cummings only has one tv and it's only at the most a 25" tube tele. Plus you would have to sit at the bar which only seats 5 people. Republic should be good. McNellie's has 2 tv's and are having beer specials during the games. Plus, they are opening for breakfast every morning during the Cup. Cool concept but then again, they only have 2 TV's. I'm not a soccer/football fan but I get into the Cup. Go USA! I'll be in Tulsa this weekend so I'll be searching too. Have fun!

Nowhere would be fine with me. I will probably be paying attention to who wins the games, but actually sitting down and watching a complete game would make me want to pull out what little hair I have left.

ljbab728 I would recommend the other threads on this forum without the words World Cup in the title. Hint: those with those words are going to be talking about the World Cup. Keep being useful.

Native - thanks for the info. I hadn't been to Sean cummings.

I wonder if any of the movie theaters are showing it. That'd be pretty cool. I know theyve done OU games and other events before.

I'd say Republic is your best bet.

  7. Default Re: Where to watch world cup games?

Republic and McNellie's. McNellie's is making a play to sort of be the HQ for OKC form what I can tell. Not to mention you can have fun beer games, drinking from whichever countries are on!

Striker, what did you think I was talking about? Certainly not the Master's Golf Tournament. I can comment on it without being an avid fan can't I? I was in Cancun recently at a hotel occupied by mostly British citizens. The main lobby bar area was totally monopolized by people watching soccer so I never went there. I'm not against soccer, I just think it is a totally boring game to watch. I do hope the US team does well though and will be rooting for them even if I'm not watching.

I'm guessing that from the number of your posts you're fairly new here. You have to get used to having comments from people who aren't totally in sinc with you. I have had a few (lol) comments from people who don't agree with me on many subjects and some have actually been correct. Not too often though. LOL

I think (while admittedly not being him at all) that he wasn't really responding to your dislike of the World Cup or soccer/football in general, but just that you decided to post about it in this thread. The OP wasn't asking, "What do you think about the World Cup?" he was asking where he could watch it. Shouting out "I don't like the World Cup" doesn't really do anything for the subject on hand.

Basically, if you don't have any suggestions for where striker can watch the game then why speak up at all? Again, the topic wasn't about what you think of the World Cup and your opinion, while valid, is not important enough to be worth derailing the thread over.

Brix has some of the best tvs designed for sports viewing in town and the food isn't bad either.

Brix does have some great tvs but their beer selection isn't that great.

Went to Seans for the Match on Saturday. Nothing better than an Irish Pub to watch a good match. Free food during the match. He has also added additional tvs to the place.

I don't dislike the World Cup or soccer, I just dislike watching it. As I said, I will follow the results and hope the US does well. I truly hope he finds a great place to watch it here in OKC because we need to have diverse offerings. I was mainly trying to convey a reason why he might not find it available in many places. The majority of the public has little interest.

If Sean added more tvs it would be the place to go. I can't imagine a more soccer enlightened crowd than Sean Cumming's.

ok, I have to ask.. what are these TVs that are "designed for sports viewing"?

I did a google search and all I could find were a couple articles about 3D tvs designed for certain sporting events..

notice that striker has been a member of this site since 2005, well before you were.

Brix has only one large TV made for sports viewing. It's a large TV that spans a wall. I'm just guessing but it has to be nearly 8' high and may 12' wide. It can split up to be 4 different screens or 1 large screen. The remainder of the TVs are just regular flat screens. They do have good nachos though.

That may be true but the number of posts means he hasn't been leaving himself open to comments from others that he may disagree with or that might disagree with him. If he's been around that long he should understand how that works. It didn't take me long to learn. And, again, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's World Cup parade. If someone enjoys it they should watch it. It's just not a major story here. College football realignment and college baseball were much bigger stories in OKC.

The newly re-opened Blue Note has a big sign out in front that says something like "you can watch all world cup games here."

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had a good time at Republic - recommended if you're looking for a place, though very busy so get there early. Might try some of the others for other games.

    Ginkasa - bingo.

    Go USA!

Went to McNellies. There was a great crowd there. It was standing room only.
