Even though it tastes like water with sugar & salt, which is gross.

I only voted No because "Hell no" wasn't an option. What's wrong with you people?!!?!

Way to many people try to "cover up"/masked" foods.
Its a pet peeve of mine.
I seen people in restaurants and even at home start to salt and peppered/ketchuped their food without even tasting it first.
Watermelon should be eaten without salt for at least a few bites.
Little wonder so many have health issues.

  7. Default Re: Do you salt your watermelon?

I like a teeny sprinkling of salt on my watermelon, especially super-sweet yellow watermelon. This was something I started as a kid.

I have no health issues, either. No high blood pressure. I don't eat that much watermelon.

For those who think it is weird--do you even know why salt is used in cooking? It's a flavor enhancer. We put salt in baked goods to bring out the flavor of chocolate and to help keep it from being one-dimensional sweet.

Not big on watermelon, but if I do eat it, I have to salt it and I also eat it with art.

I am not against "flavor enhancers", I just wished people would taste the food 1st.lol

Sometimes you can't eat the food without soaking it in something.
And you can't really walk out of restaurants without paying for it...

Well, sure, that's the proper protocol. Taste before salting/peppering. If you go to a good restaurant, then it should be properly seasoned. However, I do tend to like things a little more seasoned than others. I always put pepper in my ketchup...something my sister and I always did.

Where on earth are you eating that you feel the need to "soak" your food before eating it? If it's that unsatisfactory, then send it back.

And if you don't like watermelon, then don't eat it...same reason I don't eat lima beans.

Chili's & Applebee's. :P If I sent it back then it would just come out covered in spit so either way it would be covered in something.

You might like lima beans if you drenched them in something.

Why pay for something if you can't eat it? Inform management, leave the uneaten food and restaurant. Not a big deal.

Stay away from Crapplebee's and Chilis, then. There are plenty of other lovely chain restaurants you could patronize.

If I have to drench food in something to be able to tolerate it, then I don't like it, and I have no need to eat it.

I can eat it, thanks to ketchup & salt.
    I don't mind...
And I have stayed aaway from them.
But you're always going to run into disgusting food.

I've always said that Cattleman's got nothing on a nice Applebee's steak slathered with ketchup and covered in salt. Mmmmm. . .

I very rarely get disgusting food. But, after one reaaaaalllly bad experience at Crapplebee's, I swore I'd never go back. And I haven't. That much garlic on anything is an abomination. It was honestly the worst food I have ever gotten, including fast food.

And now I seriously want some yellow watermelon and I am missing the out-of-the-back-of-a-truck roadside stands we used to have with melons back home.

I understand very well how/why salt is used for flavor enhancement, but I guess I've been lucky enough to never encounter a watermelon that needed any enhancing.

    Same goes for beer.

I have only found one good watermelon stand here in the city that sells a mean yellow watermelon, but I cant for the life of me remember where it was. Sad day.

Applebee's is like the worst restaurant ever, if you're comparing anything to Applebee's you need to get out more and explore the city's offerings.

    I dislike Cimarron Steak House.
    Tried it twice.
Each time it tasted something like they marinated it in lighter fluid.

Cattlemens is by far the best that is left in OKC.
But my all time fav was Steak and Ale, yea I know surprising to me too.

Cattlemens is OKC's best? You need to get out more and get some real top notch beef. Go to Red Prime they are ranked one of the top 10 steakhouses in the US and one of the few in Oklahoma that even carry prime, dry aged, and (I believe only that carries) wagyu beef. Cattlemen's is a joke and nothing more than nostalgia. Also get out and try The Ranch and Mahoghany and Mickey Mantles.
