Thread: Ideas for Okc

  1. #1

    Default Ideas for Okc

Our city needs to have a dedicated website such as this. Take a look.

I sent an email to Mayor Cornett, and hope that he takes a look at this website. It is ideas for Seattle but how cool would it be to duplicate this website for Okc?

I really like how this site works. It limits votes to 10 per person, and it has an area of ideas that have been accepted and completed.

Well, big ideas and executing them often cost loads of money. But on that site one big idea to legalize and tax marijuana would actually make some money. Of course, most people in Oklahoma would be absolutely blind and shut minded toward such an idea. But as it is now, we risk bad publicity every time an outsider tries to drive thru Oklahoma with medical marijuana and a permit issued for it by another state, yet gets arrested and thrown in jail. So try to write your legislators asking them to do something about that little problem.

Really, though, Oklahoma City has a lot going for it. Probably what it has to offer needs promoted outside the state better.

Bunty, first, has this even happened yet? Second, anyone who has a medical pot license should be smart enough to know most states haven't legalized medical pot so if they travel through OK and get caught with it, thats the risk they run. Third, I doubt but a handful of legislators see this as a significant issue. Fourth, only 14 states have legalized medical pot so we are far from alone and, therefore, makes it doubtful there is going to be any negaive publicity of significance behind it.

This is how OKC's "Ideas for OKC" list would look like:

    1. Kick the illegals out.
    2. Kick Obama out.
    3. Put an Indian Casino in Bricktown.
    4. Widen Memorial Road.
    5. More bus routes.

Well, with no fanfare or publicity from the media, Oklahoma legislators moved to change Oklahoma anti-obscenity laws to closer reflect prior U. S. Supreme Court rulings on the issue not too long after the ridiculous fiasco in Tulsa over trying to unsuccessfully ban Penthouse magazine.

Would Oklahoma legislators be moved to change any laws that don't allow for medical marijuana after a highly publicized arrest of an outsider over it? Probably not, unless, perhaps, it's a highly respected and well known individual. And so the importance of contacting your legislator, anyway, on the issue.

lol, Like I wrote previously, OKC needs to better promote what it already has to offer. For instance, who knows of those huge metal sculptures signifying the Oklahoma Land Run? Are there more to come? Seems like at least some OKC people have trouble seeing big as well as seeing big to promote its good stuff.

It should be set up in order to participate, setting up and online Okc resident validated ID. The system could be set up using your Okc water bill account number along with your actual name and address.

Part of ones idea could also be coming up with the idea for the funding of such project.

I suspect you couldn't think of anything else to put in for #5. You could have stopped at four and no one would have noticed. I like 1, 2 and 4 though. I would add, "we need more downtown parks and plazas to p!ss-off the urbanists, and to provide greater walking distances for our fatties".

Except that wouldn't work for most renters, or even us multi-family unit housing owners. I own a condo DT, but don't pay my water bill, do I not get a right to vote under your system?

    Your right.

How would one prove Okc residency being with an online verification?

Your whole building would have to share a vote.

    --sounds fair to me.

Urban residents only count for 3/5ths of a vote.

Fortunately your opinion just became irrelevant. Just kidding.

We could always just steal Seattle's ideas. I mean, they're probably used to us ripping them off by now.

Have you read some of the Seattle ideas?

Here are some of my favorites from Seattle ideas. (I am not making these up.)

    1. Set aside park areas for European-style, clothing optional recreation.

    2. Plant edible perinnials in public parks.

    3. Let the lesbians bare their breasts.

    4. Get old people to ride bicycles.

I think it's pretty telling if you just look at the #1 suggestion on the site..

And I didn't realize Elliott Bay Book Company was moving. We all know our bookstore is probably fixing to move..

Some of these really are crazy....This one's got 647 votes right now. Great idea too. Instead of moving I-40 we should have just put a gigantic lid over it and made the lid a park. Quote:

Create a lid over I-5 in Seattle

I-5 creates a divide between Downtown Seattle/Lake Union and the densely populated Capitol Hill area. A lid should be placed over it (from Pike St to Mercer St or further) and have the lid contain a large open park with features such tennis courts, baseball fields and other related recreational facillities.

One problem: How do you propose we put a lid over the current Crosstown Expressway?

I guess we could make a man-made "mountain." We could name it Mount Oklahoma.

Maybe a park over 44. That would be more logical.

  23. Default Re: Ideas for Okc

Capping I-235 would be a great idea.

Thats like what Boston did with the Big Dig and I-95. Any one have $12 billion to spare?

St. Louis has been having the "lid" conversation for years because of a misguided sunken highway downtown. The OKC equivalent would be to "cover" the new Crosstown with the Core To Shore Park while both are being built, which, I would think, would be a fraction of the price of going back later, a la St. Louis, Boston, or Seattle. Hey, the city or state did it once upon a time with the capital park over 23rd. I think this would be awesome, as it would get rid of an unnatural barrier between the CBD and the river.
