I don't know what day of the week you took those, but if you look at those buildings I don't know how you could be shocked that it's dead. There's no reason for anyone to be on those streets on the weekend. The least busy part of London on the weekends is The City, which is also shockingly dead considering their population. If all the buildings in a location are only used Monday through Friday, there's little reason to be there on a weekend.
What surprised me when I walked home after the Lets Talk Transit meeting was how
many people were on the streets downtown on a Tuesday evening. I saw people walking their dogs, going to bars, going to restaurants and just out and about. It's better than you think.
Downtown is funny. I work in the First National Center and they lock all the doors and shut off the A/C at 6pm! It always cracks me up. I ask myself, "In this whole building, are there no people who work past 5pm besides me?" lol
I wish I could have made it to the photography meet-up, but I didn't get back from my field trip until after 6pm. Downtown is a favorite subject for me. Here's a link to some of my pics: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/m...homa-city.html Okay...there's a couple in there from the Farmer's Market, which isn't technically downtown, but I still think of it as the general downtown area.
Must have been in one of these old threads but the lack of people in pics was something brought up over and over again. I think a lot of it has to do with the tendency of the person taking the pic (if of buildings etc) is trying to get the "perfect" shot and many don't want strangers mucking things up (blurring etc). May not be as big an issue with digital (the blurring part) but think it is a throw back to the film days which wasn't that long ago. The last time I took pics (on Mother's Day) I remembered that and tried to make it a point to ignore the people moving thru the shot...take it anyway. nned to get those printed....
I was trying not to have people in my pictures but everyone else was trying really hard to have people in their pictures. There really was only one or two people besides us on Broadway. There were people by the Memorial and other than that there were people from the Skirvin to Bricktown.
I think OKC has vitality, but if you can't prove it in a picture, how can you prove that it's there?
Yeah, I just like taking pictures of buildings......and the landscape in general. People just get in the way.
Hahaha. Speaking of pulling a SandRidge...

I took a few pictures with my camera phone of the Devon site today. You can go to the top of the new garage. I think that we should do a parking garage tour this time and just go parking garage to parking garage getting aerial views of the city, or maybe we can get on a few rooftops of some of the buildings to take pictures.
Also I think a few districts would be fun to take pictures of Stockyard City, Paseo, Capitol Hill (for Southside Spartan), Plaza, and maybe a few neighborhoods? It would be more of a driving tour with stops, but it would be great to see the different areas.
Yes I think it would be very cool to do a southside photo walk! I'll bring my camera that doubles as a glock. Too bad the Grill on the Hill is no longer open. I also think a parking garage tour would be really awesome too. That's what we should do if some more people are down for it.
When did the Grill on the Hill close?
Wasn't open when I wanted chicken fried steak.
Grill on the Hill is open - Thursday special is the catfish.
Well I tried going there for dinner twice last week and they were closed. It was like 6-7-8ish each time, so there was no reason for them to be closed. I they're open, that's awesome..I'll give it another try.
Off topic but I can't remember what thread it was in...just saw a commercial for Lorec Ranch today and they are having a 30% off sale...only location given was on Reno (between Portland & Meridian??) So Spartan was right that the 1-35 location had closed.
Mon - Thurs: 6:30am - 3pm; Fri: 6:30am - 8pm.
Grill on the Hill Facebook page
I will try them for dinner sometime this weekend I think, maybe tonight, we'll see. I went there countless times and they seriously looked like they had closed when I went there the last time and they weren't open. Tables had all been pushed in the side annex area. Didn't look good.
I'm glad Lorec Ranch is still in business, too.
Yep, according to the hours in the prior post, they are only open Mon thru Fri and if you are going to do dinner, Friday is your only option.
That sucks. I didn't realize their hours were that restrictive but I guess if you go there on a Friday evening on your way to downtown you don't realize it.
Agree, there are plenty of places I would love to try but due to my work/sleep schedule, they just aren't ever going to happen (esp places that are just open for lunch like Nics)
