Hey everyone, check out the latest AHL team name news at Oilers Jambalaya.com, apparently the word is out that the name possibly may not be Barons, but the Roughnecks, or even Bison.

I dont know, theres even a trademark request that the team be named the OKC Roughnecks w/logo request as well. Have the Oilers changed the name, or is Prodigal just having some fun.

Has anyone heard anything new throughout the day about the mojo coming out on wednesday. Whats your opinion, Roughnecks?, Barons?, Bisons?, or do you think it may be something else?.

I think that it will be Barons! If I can remember "Barons" was among the names narrowed down in the name the team contest the Oklahoman sponsored when Thunder beat out "Outlaws" and "Barons."

Has anyone followed the latest today on the team name. Now theres logos on the US Trademark office for the OKC Roughnecks, the OKC Bisons as well. Apparently, a fourth name has popped up as the OKC Twisters coming into the hat as a possibility for the name tomorrow.

So now its four possible names coming up, even though theres alot of speculation as to many people thinking its the Barons, Im not locking into that at this moment. Its not over, 'til its over tomorrow at 4 pm.

What do y'all around town think, OKC Barons, OKC Roughnecks, OKC Bisons, or OKC Twisters?. Personally, I like Roughnecks, followed by the Twisters, but whatever they name the team, I hope they begin selling items online soon or at the COX center. Tomorrow ought to be exciting to the name and logo out there and begin promoting hockeys return to OKC in 5 months. Also, I am hoping to see when the inaugural season schedule comes out.

Very true, we shall see if they do. Personally, I'll probably be at the games, instead of behind the tube if the were televised.

Actually, I would name a team the Twisters though after what has happened last week, and I would doubt that the Bison would be chosen since the Thunder have the mascot of the Bison, however, Im hoping to get a seat tomorrow at the Cox for the Big Event.

PRODIGAL HOCKEY PRESS CONFERENCE MAY 19
Prodigal Hockey will announce the name for their new American Hockey League team on May 19 at 4 p.m. in the Northeast Lobby of the Cox Convention Center.

In addition to officially presenting the name and logo, Prodigal Hockey will unveil the official team jerseys and the winner of the Name the Team Contest. Prodigal Hockey asked for fans to submit team name ideas and they responded with over 20,000 entries and 3,000 individual names. One lucky person who submitted the name chosen will receive a VIP trip for two to see the Edmonton Oilers take on the Dallas Stars in Dallas during the 2010-11 season.

Parking is available in the parking garage next to the Courtyard by Marriott for no charge. Also, don't forget to bring your business cards. One lucky fan who attends the press conference will win one of the new team jerseys. One entry per person. Must be present to win.

The soon-to-be-named team will be the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. The American Hockey League has been in operation for 74 consecutive seasons and serves as the primary developmental league for National Hockey League players, coaches and staff. Nearly 85 percent of NHL players have competed at the AHL level.

Well, once again the word is out on OilFieldHockey.com, OilersJambalaya.com, and Copper and Blue that the team will be name the "Oklahoma City Barons", even though who knows how sneaky Prodigal Hockey could be. There even stating that its official according to AHL.com.

Who knows, I am just gonna wait til I see it while at the Cox Center. Regardless of the name, I will support the team name and attend plenty of games this coming season. Ill admit, Im kind of partial to the Houston Aeros, but I am all the way for the new OKC AHL team.

So whats next, name the contest for an NFL team coming to OKC, just kidding.

I favored the Barons over the Thunder and Outlaws. I now like the Thunder name because it has grown on me.

The Barons will have the task of shredding the Blazers name from within the hockey shadows!

I'm neither a ice rink nut or puck, but I think going with a fresh start is a good move. It's new traditions time for those who relish the sport.

Well, as we all figured the name is the OKC Barons, my Congratulations to Bob Funk, the Edmonton Oilers, Cox, and all others involved in the operations of the team.

I went to the Press Conference today and it was quite awesome to be a part of OKC hockey history and see the unveiling of the name and logo. I guess we still have to wait a short while for the mascot though even though I would say the mascot should be the lil monopoly game butler dude, or maybe just have Doug Sauter as the mascot.

As for the support of the team, and some thinking that the Barons will be in the blazers shadow, well just give them a lil time and we all shall see how successful they will become. The CHL of old needs to fly away, and focus on the future. Today alone, after checking the CHL.com website, another team, Amarillo Gorillas, ceased operations today and sadly Amarillo may not see hockey for some time now. I highly doubt that they are hoping to follow the defunct blazers and land an AHL team.

In fact, I would not be surprised that the CHL folds and disbands within 4 or 5 years now at the rate teams are dying out of the old league.

Regardless, we are now a city on the horizon of professional hockey and I think it will bring excitement for all.

I'm excited about our being in the AHL. I had a friend email me when OKC got the AHL franchise and he says the quality of hockey from the CHL is not even comparable. He swears there are high school teams in Minnesota and tons of them in Canada that could beat a CHL team. Is that true? I've said that and repeated it, I certainly hope I'm right. The Barons name sounds good to me. I'm with Kevin ( a few posts back), it's time with the new league to begin a new tradition.
