Name our new AHL team

That jersey idea looks somewhat acceptable, but the edmonton oilers jersey appears too retro, they need to update it to look more modern for these days. But it does look good though. Any one have word when souveneirs may go on sale, LOL, seeing if they name the team.

Yeah, I like the "OKC" and the giant "Barons" logos, I think they need to get away from the oil rig logo, dosent seem to good for the jersey. I think they should consider that old blazer "B" as an option as well.

But all in all, I like two of the three logos that have been listed.

Well, here it comes. There is an announcement coming Wednesday May 19th at 4pm, at the Cox, for the official name of the AHL OKC team. We all know that its probably going to be the Barons. However, nothing is official, until its official. This is listed on the Prodigal Hockey website this morning. At least theres progress. Still, I had hoped they would have chosen a tougher name for the team, but the barons will be acceptable. The point is OKC is getting high caliber hockey back in town.

I wonder if the in the shortfalls in the CHL, if any other cities may try and relocate teams over to the AHL in the future. In '02 the San Antonio Iguanas disbanded and became the Rampage, affiliates of the Coyotes, as well as Austin, Tx, disbanding the Ice Bats and bringing the Texas Stars to town. Though I doubt this would likely happen soon at all.

I just can believe that its taken them this long to find a name for the team, even though I know there some legal mumbo jumbo involved as well. Im starting to wonder if the Barons was going to be the name all along, and that the name the team contest was all in vein.

As for the logos, I admit I do like the OKC oil drop, and the Oklahoma City barons w/ oil drop. However the third logo w/ the oil rig looks too cheesy. I know they could design something better than that.

Does the oil spill in the Gulf have something to do with the team name at all. They could have chosen the Oklahoma City "Gulf of Mexico oil spilling enviornmentalist Hippie liberals" or somthing of the likes.

I hope the new OKC-AHL franchise doesn't use this logo it reminds me of those orange rubber truck scrotums minus-one that people are attaching to the back of their rear-bumpers.

I really like the name Barons, I wish they would have named our NBA team that but understand why they didn't... I was hoping they were saving the name for our NFL team though!

I can't imagine, though, the fans in Cleveland being that pumped about it. Cleveland Barons hockey goes way back.

As a Blazers fan from the early days, would have been a little irritating to see a CHL expansion team go with the name 'Blazers'.







By the way, does that last logo look familiar? Anything else we can snag from the folks in Cleveland?

OKC isnt getting NFL for a looooooooong time.

1. our market is too close to Dallas' Cowboys

2. our market is too small to support an NFL team, which of all major leagues has more stringent requirements than NBA, NHL, or MLB.

3. were too gung-ho over sooner football to distract our attention for a milli-second to watch a would-be local NFL team toss a pigskin around as well.

We just generally don't see eye to eye on a great many issues.

But I do agree about the NFL....weird huh. It'll be a cold day in haedes when they come to town. I think you'd have to see an OKC of 3-4 million first...because Dallas is so close.
