Thread: The Shack

  1. #1

    Northwest OKC The Shack

Just noticed this new restaurant going in where Spinozi's was located (63rd, east of Sante Fe). The logo features the states of Oklahoma and Texas, so I am assuming it is a regional restaurant. Anybody heard any info? Sorry if it has already been discussed, I brisked through the last five pages and did not see a thread.

A group from Houston...Seafood and Steaks, very casual. I think one of the owners is part of the Laundry's family.

Do we have any more info like a website or anything?

Couldn't see any fine print. This thread is the first topic that comes up on a Google search. And I couldn't find The Shack listed as a restaurant on the Landry's Restaurant site.

I saw the sign and was curious so I went by. Talked to a older lady that was there a few weekends ago, said her boyfriend from Texas who managed Floyds in Houston was opening it with the guy from Floyds. Also said hes turning the bar into a boat and will be having fresh seafood brought in once, maybe twice a week from the Gulf of Texas. Spinozis was a dump, maybe this place will not be as bad.

Ya Spinozis was terrible!!! But the guy who owns the place now is really taking care of it. I havent been by there in a couple weeks, but the inside is totally different. Like new floors, a MUCH MUCH MUCH larger kitchen, and then the layout is pretty different too. Like the bar isnt awkwardly in the middle anymore, (if you've ever been its where the old stage used to be) It should open around march you should definently come by and try it out!

I saw Big Truck Tacos tweeting about going there last night. They said good things about it and had a twitpic of some good looking crawfish.

Went Sunday, the boiled crawfish were fresh and tasted great. The po-boy was the best I have had in a while and I frequent Cajun places all the time when I am in Houston. Definitely recommend trying it. Really looking forward to when they get their patio finished.

My son and I went to the restaurant Saturday night after the movies. I had read the menu but was unsure what to order because I'm not a big Cajun fan. He ordered the plate with catfish and fried shrimp, fries, and a side salad not included with the meal, and he ate every bite. I, on the other hand ordered grilled shrimp and shack fries and a salad. The waiter gave me veggies instead of fries which was ok, and the salad was good. After eating 2 shrimps my nose was running and my throat was burning. Just a little too spicy hot for me. So they made me up some shrimp that didn't have any seasoning and it was delicious. The people were really nice, and if you like Cajun food, I'd recommend this place.

I am having a lot of trouble picturing the area, and Google Street View didn't help much either. Are there any notable landmarks or businesses near the restaurant?

Went there last week. It is real nice, food was awesome. The owner has family here, that's the reason he opened up in OKC. His family owns the other place in Houston. So the way I understood, it only 2 of 2, family owned. Was still waiting to get his liquor license, so had beer only.

Had lunch yesterday. Tried the grilled tilapia and gumbo. Both were excellent. The owner came around and introduced himself, very nice guy, offered free oysters to try (excellent). The place is totally cleaned up and remodeled. Beer only now, three more weeks to liquor liscence. Overall I would recommend it.

    Thumbs up The Shack

It was a pleasant surprise to find this place called The Shack off of 62nd Street. I have recently moved to OK from the East Coast and The Shack has fresh seafood that is reminiscent of home ; )

If anyone has time to go for Sunday brunch, try the Seafood Fondue and the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict. (mmmmmm)

that's the one... can't remember what it was called prior to spinozi's, though. i seem to remember it was some kind of biker bar. -M

It was a biker bar, Strokers Full Throttle and after that, Scooters and Hooters. Before that it was Beasley's Barbecue.

Eaten there a few times for lunch. Not bad to good. I just don't like fried seafood, so my options are pretty limited.
