Thread: Robocop

    Default Robocop

figured id talk about one of my all time fave films here: Robocop. Im a fan of the trilogy, but Im especially fond of the 1st 2 films in the series.

Paul Verhoeven is a mastermind genius in filmmaking, Irvin Kershner directed the 2nd one (of Empire Strikes Back fame). Its hard to believe the 1st film was shot in the summer of 1986, almost a quarter century ago.

The first film was shot in Dallas, the second one Houston, and the third in Atlanta. Im finally going to head into Dallas next week to visit a lot of the different sites that were used in the 1986 film, especially Dallas City Hall located at 1500 Marilla Street. This building served as OCP headquarters in the film and a matte painting was used to make the building seem taller than it really was.

Theres rumor and buzz on the web of a possible new entry to the Robocop saga, it could be either a new sequel or a reboot to the series. Im hoping its not the latter as I am seldom impressed with film reboots.

who could forget about this classic scene from the first film, i think its the funniest part of the whole film.

Hollywood is out of ideas, a reboot is a given. Only a matter of when.

I hate the Dallas City Hall, it is another I.M. Pei atrocity. It is hard to get around and find anything inside there (early 90's), I had to walk through the council chambers to get to another part of the building.

The "house scene" where they are having the party was designed by a friend up there. The owner of the house had a software company that wrote all of the integration software for it. Back in those days it had been profiled on shows like PM Magazine and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. The designer that I knew was interviewed on the PM Magazine segment. It is in a neighborhood off of Preston Road in the area north of Valley View Mall, not sure what cross street.

I need to see these. They're not on Netflix's "Watch Now" selection, otherwise I would watch them right now.

Plus, this is a funny link related to the clip you supplied.

There is a bunch of Pei (and Cobb) stuff in Downtown Dallas. Efficient space planning in most of them was an exercise in futility.

    Yes, that was the house.

I don't remember the exact location, I had only been there once and that was before the movie came out when the house was under construction. I think it is in the Preston Hollow subdivision. There are a bunch of articles on the web about it from the time period.
