I was surprised that Steve mentioned downtown area residents shop at Belle Isle walmart for groceries.

We will be waiting at least a year until the WF is opened and that is one year for Okc grocery stores to get their act together. Maybe this will improve a few of the other grocery stores in the market now.
I cant wait to see WF here.
This will raise the bar for grocery/food markets/stores.

I am NOT a fan of A.M., but I am happy that this is happening.

Except these urban examples not in Minne:

    West Hollywood:

    Brooklyn

    Stamford, CT

One being constructed in Washington DC

    Chicago

    And sorry for the hijack.

There would be no need for target to build a multi level store in OKC. I imagine that DT population would have to increase x10 for it to be feasible

Not necessarily true. Denver has a two story Target in a suburban part of town. It's a step in the right direction as far as land use goes. I wouldn't want a typical Target anywhere near downtown. I agree though, population is an issue.

    Denver

As others pointed out there are numerous urban ones across the country, I remember seeing one in Miami years ago, right off one of the rail lines. I'm pretty sure Dallas has one two, but could be mistaken. I've seen them in LA too.

Admittedly I'm no expert in the area of state liquour laws, but I don't believe the law requires the owner of land or building to be the owner/partner in a liquor store. There are many examples all over town where a liquor store is a tenant in a strip center owned by different parties.

Looking at such examples, CHK could construct the building and lease space to a qualified liquor store operator. Perhaps even one that is already established and is owned/operated by a good friend with the CHK ceo....

In Kansas, a number of liquor stores are in the same building as the grocery, but have a door adjacent to the entry of the supermarket. It is two transactions, but really a single shopping trip. There are multiple ways to skin the cat.

Actually, my question was regarding whether Whole Foods could operate the liquor store. Because they are only leasing the building and Aubrey is the owner, could they somehow form a partnership that would allow that to happen? Because, I would assume Whole Foods wants the income from the liquor store.

I don't believe Dallas has one. But you did just answer your ownself..

Those stores are in Miami, LA, NYC area, Chicago, DC, etc. The Denver example is pretty interesting, though. Colorado is a high-growth area with strict land use reforms unlike us, however.

There is a Walmart in Pineville Missouri that sells hard liquor. Missouri likes to drink.

That looks great...why can't we do something like that here with some of the existing downtown/bricktown buildings...sort of get back to the multi-story department store of days gone by...

I am late to this thread as have been out of country for awhile. I live in Norman near OU and will definitely shop WF but not on a weekly basis if in CC. Downtown would have been more convenient for me though.

We lived in Tulsa before moving to Norman and I loved the WF there. The prepared items are wonderful and the cheese selections outstanding. I can hardly wait until the OKC one opens.

The Tulsa WF has done so well that a few years ago it expanded. When I go back there, the store is amazingly busy even in the recession and without liquor. I predcit the same success for an OKC store.

...because OkCity is too busy tearing the "existing" buildings down.

I'm sittin in a room with a few people that claim to be in "the know", including my stepmom, about where the grocier is to be built. They say Classen Curve. I hope so...

That room has a lot of people in it. Yeah, it will be Classen Curve. We'll get the rest of the info this week.

I am hoping for some renderings. Surely there had to be SOME form of orthographic documents in order for it to get a construction permit.

What can we expect to hear on Wednesday? Is it going to be an announcement from CHK or WF?

I think the one you are thinking about in Dallas is next to the Cityplace Tower on Central. It's not an urban design. Its a suburban design store.

I'd imagine it will be an announcement from CHK or whomever the developer is. Don't see WF holding a press conference.

Metro, Whole Foods said they were going to announce it Wednesday as part of their earnings report. Sounds like an announcement by Whole Foods to me.
