I'm suprised they stayed in the mall this long. Are the employees there going to relocate to the new one on I-240?

They were most likely completing the lease obligation.

    Anyway, will check Quail out.
do people really ever BUY anything at Spencers?? seems like everyone just runs to the back of the store to laugh and giggle at all the sex and fart toys with their friends for a few minutes, then leave.

Yes I bought quite a few things there (NOT the stuff you mentioned)...they had Garfield and Coca-Cola stuff among other things.

I thought it had been said that the mall is now owned by the US gov't. Did I get that wrong?

Yes, it's owned by the Federal Reserve, and is in turn part of one of the Maiden Lane entities (which consist of "toxic" assets acquired from banks as part of the bailout.)

    RIP Crossroads Mall

    1974-2010.

I somehow hope the property is renovated and turned into a retail strip mall, and not something useless like another community college or government agency.

Southside needs more retail, as I am starting to refuse to shop anywhere, just so my zip code isn't on the receipts, thus allowing those people the honor of knowing people from southside will shop at their stores.

Crossroads needs to be turned into a community college or a factory or something irrelevant, or even better, it needs to be demolished. Maybe we could borrow the wrecking ball from SandRidge for a day and put it to GOOD use on the south side..

The south side deserves better, and it's a RIPE market for a real lifestyle center development--along either I-240 or 134th. Good demographics, good growth, absolutely NO retail. Or even better.. the city needs to get in there and try and get some retail to open up in Capitol Hill. Why not offer a TIF district for a developer to put in an urban shopping strip, and try and get many of the former Crossroads retailers to locate there (like JC Penney's, American Eagle, Spencer's, etc, idk what else).

Trying to get an AMC or Dickinson or some chain movie theater to open in Capitol Hill would also be INCREDIBLE for revitalizing the south side. A Warren would be even better.

I guess it doesn't hurt to say this by now but our south side location of Tuxedo Junction was moved out of CR back in mid March to S. 19th St. & I-35 in Moore at Riverwalk Center. It's an additional 5 miles to the south but the tug & pull goes both ways. May lose business from MWC/Del City and points east but pick up more business from Moore & Norman and points south. There's more traffic in this part of Moore too, so overall it's been a better situation for our owners.

I went by yesterday just out of curiosity. There may have been 30 people in there, maybe. A whole wing had practically no stores in it.

The structure seems to be pretty sound and it is near two major interstates.......so how does something get mismanaged to that extent?

I think the biggest problem with Crossroads is access, even though it's bordered by two major interstates, it's not the easiest place to get to, especially if your traveling through and not familiar with the area.

I bring this up every 6 months or so, just to stimulate discussion, but Crossroads could make for a great TOrD. Minus the landfill that is.

That's pretty cool looking, Plansit. This is the problem I see though: How many other places in the metro could make an awesome TOD? Hundreds if you're counting the Crossroads site.

Crossroads Mall needs to go, and a different retail project needs to happen for the southside and we need to get this Crossroads nightmare behind us. Why does there have to be ANYthing there? Why can't it just sent empty and cordoned off? Eventually a fire will demolish it for us.

There is no need to salvage the Crossroads site or do ANYthing to save the mall. We need to focus on the future, not the past, we need to focus on sustainability and the Crossroads site was flawed before it ever got built simply by where they chose to build it. Even in terms of the southside, that was a BAD location. One benefit though, to its location, is that it will make it very easy to forget..being wedged between a ghetto and a landfill, nobody will even notice it unless they're driving on I-35, and even then, we can always put a wall up..or shocking concept for Oklahoma, plant some trees.

That landfill kinda sets the mood for the entire area.

Spartan, I agree this Crossroads obsession is unbelievable. Over 40 pages of discussion here.

Demo the entire site and make it a park. Trees and a nice plaque much like a tombstone, giving homage to what once was here.

Fair enough, so how about MWC off of 29th?
