Proof?
awesome.
I was there and saw none of that...I think this guy just made that up...
Like nothing would happen in LA if you wore a Thunder jersey.
Kelly Ogle did a My 2 Cents on the topic of fan manners at Thunder games, and he implied there was some type of mechanism in place where you could text the section number of an offensive fan to a special number that would cause security to be dispatched. He said he saw it work quickly. Maybe it's mentioned in the programs for the game (if there is such a thing). If all else fails, email Kelly Ogle and ask him about it. :-)
you're just going to throw this out "lil wayne"? It seems like you have some questions to answer about the validity of this. Of course OKC isn't perfect and I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Just thought you might want to expound on this.
Don't wear a Laker jersey to our playoff games.
Simple 'nuff. Perhaps invest in a reversible OKC>LA jersey, you can blend in and still feel proud for wearing a Lakers jersey.
I've seen plenty of the reverse behavior from Laker fans, as far as rudeness and obnoxious comments about the Thunder go. I haven't had stuff thrown at me, but if I did, I'd text the number they tell you to and get security involved. If it happened during game six and you were gloating vocally, then I don't blame people for being rude. If you're from LA, or have been a Laker fan since you were too young to remember, then fine, wear your jersey in OKC and support your team. If you're a bandwagoner and you're from OKC, then its time to switch and support your city's team. I was a Mavs fan for years, but no longer. I'm not from Dallas and I see no reason to continue to support them. I support my city's team.
Wayne, you're living in OKC. We now have a team in OKC. You should no longer be supporting the LA team. I'd say the security guys should allow the Thunder fans to destroy any LA fans.
I was the one that threw the ice cream at you!
It's a ridiculous assertion that if you live in a certain market you should support that market's teams only. That being said, if you are an obnoxious fan of the visiting team, don't expect high fives from the locals when your team scores.
Tell ME about bandwagon fans! We have a mini-season ticket plan with the Texas Rangers, and I almost dread Yankee, Red Sox and White Sox games because of all the bandwagon fans who have obviously never been outside the borders of Tarrant, Dallas or Collin counties, let alone to NY, Boston or Chicago.
Troll thread?? Sore winner?? Hmmmm
i must admit to giving it to a couple of laker fans in game four. however, i used no foul language nor did i throw anything at them. about the worst thing i did was ask them why they would cheer for a rapist when kobe made a basket only to get the "it was all the womans fault" response. also, they were the ones who brought the banner and tried to get on television with it so they should have expected a response. i was far more proud of our fans during the playofffs when the laker fans were drowned out than i was during the first game they were here this season and you could hear them cheering loudly for their team. the good thing is that it seemed as if after the game, everyone got along as good citizens as they should.
By the way, I lived twenty years in Los Angeles and one thing that nobody had problems with is the fans being too rowdy. You usually didnt even realize they were there.
WOW! These must have been isolated incidents. I was at both playoff games and didn't see anything close to the behavior either of you are describing.
And tractor-pulling hillbillies? Jeez, stephy, go straight for a stereotype?
Maybe next time we play in LA I can talk about the Lakers fans acting like a bunch of gang thugs. Just sayin'.
So I guess I should attend a Raiders game wearing the visiting team's garb if I want to understand how well 'big city' fans treat visitors.
Gotcha.
Steph, taking your comments in this thread and a previous one where you seemed mortified that OKC would display its banjo chops to the world that you might be harboring a small bit of insecurity about your Oklahoma identity.
I say embrace your inner hillbilly.
It is pretty simple really - if you are a Lakers fan enjoy your victory in a low-profile kind of way while in OKC. In all honesty, if you are out making a spectacle of yourself expect someone to take offense to it. Just as much as you enjoy winning, there is probably someone that hates losing a lot more. 99.99% of the Thunder fans could probably take it stride, that 0.01% might beat the crap out of you.
Even if the Thunder assailant is caught – he’ll be out in 6 months, you might have to live the rest of your life with a few false teeth.
