One of my favorites had a similiar "turn of the century" look and feel. Remember the Carnation Ice Cream Parlor on south Penn? Tiny little place but the product was great!

I remember getting a bananna split at Farrell's when on a date. There was enough for four people but I got through it!

I remember the Carnation Ice Cream Parlor on S. Penn.. My family lived a few blocks away but I did not remember the name of the place untill your post. Thanks

on a stretcher if you finished it. I think they told everyone that you made
a pig of yourself and gave you a button that said the same thing.

I never made it to Farrell's but they're still around on the west coast.

GLITZ, GLAMOUR and a bunch of kids dressed up.....Did you want ICE CREAM or a comedy show?......Capitol Hill Ice Cream.....If you wanted a whole bunch all you had to do was "show 'em the money".....They would walk you to the car if you got sick on too much....Just kidding with you guys....Never went to Farrell's. I was being a "daddy, Husband and Boss" in the Great State of TEXAS home of the "Unforgettable" LONGHORNS when Crossroads opened....That Texas town was so far advanced that for $20.00 (cash) the owner of the movie theater opened at 8:00 a.m. one Saturday for me, my oldest son and his best friend and gave us ALL the Popcorn and Coke we wanted and let us watch "Smokey and the Bandit" Until about 9:00 p.m. that night.....Hope I NEVER see another Burt Reynolds movie or a Black Trans Am as long as I live....No more Popcorn for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner....The kids have quite a story to still tell.......

I never went to Farrell's. Most of my ice cream eating, pre-Braum's, was at
one of the Carnation shops. Shepherd Mall was a favorite. There was one
on S. Pennslyvania, too. Just south of TG&Y and on the west side of the
street.

And of course, the Capitol Hill Ice Cream shop.

I went to Farrell's often and it was a lot of fun. Never tried the Pig Trough though. I did see it being carried out to tables however. They never skimped on the ice cream.

Only went to Farrell's one time as a kid, and while we were there, someone ordered what I think was called something like a "Gastronomic Delight" or some such thing. It was this astonishing MOUNTAIN of ice cream and related toppings. I couldn't fathom one person could eat it; as they wheeled it out, all the lights in the place were racing and sirens went off, the whole thing. It was quite a place.

That was J.B. Nimbells. There was also a place on Northwest Expressway between McArthur and Rockwell where All American Fitness is now located called Ollie's. J.B. Nimbells had a dish called the kitchen sink. They gave you a wooden chip that said something like "I ate the Kitchen Sink at J.B. Nimbells."

I worked at Ollie's Sandwich and Ice Cream Parlor when it opened - managed the fountain area, thanks to my vast experience at Baskin Robbins. We had a "Lollapalooza" - twenty-something scoops of ice cream, toppings, etc- whenever we served one (rare) - sirens went off and lights flashed.

IIRC - I was a senior in high school when it opened in late 1972 or early 1973. I quit by summer - the cost to drive that far (from mid-town where we lived) got too much so I went back to Taco Bell. The owners were having problems meeting payroll then - so I'd guess it lasted less than a year.
