I thought Matt's post was, err, funny. I chuckled. I guess sign me up for the sans-soul camp. I am more than positive if someone from this guy's family came on here and told Matt that his joke was out of line, he would apologize in an instant. But, that is very unlikely to happen. He didn't make fun of the dude for being gay, or fat, or gay and fat.. he made a joke about a TOE TAG. Get it? A TAG! He wanted a TAG and he got one. GET IT!?! A classic joke style. A pun, if you can follow.

As Augustus said, "All lives are short, some are shorter than others."

Gay Activist Dies Days After Scuffle With TPD Officers

Activist Keith Kimmel said he was injured after he was dragged across the pavement by police after being thrown out of a local bar. Kimmel took pictures of his injuries and filed a formal complaint. Then he drove back to his Norman home, where he was discovered dead just days later. Now the case is the subject of an internal investigation by TPD.

"I am very disappointed. That's the last time I saw him alive," says Toby Jenkins.

Jenkins was among the last to see Keith Kimmel before he was thrown out of a Tulsa nightclub for causing a drunken disturbance Friday night.

"I was stepping in and he was stepping out. We talked a bit and he seemed a bit preoccupied," Jenkins tells us.

It all happened at End Up where Tulsa Police were quickly called in.

"From the onset, point of contact, he was verbally aggressive, physically aggressive and resistant at that point," explains Jason Willingham from the Tulsa Police Department.

Kimmel sustained cuts and abrasions during that altercation with TPD. He took pictures, wrote about the incident on his blog, and even filed a formal complaint.

Then just a few days later Kimmel was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances at his home in Norman, leaving many to wonder if the injuries sustained during that scuffle with TPD is to blame.
Article has pic(s). One hell of a strawberry on this guy's belly. (I say "pic(s)" because I'm afraid to look and see any more, so I'm just assuming that there's probably more of them.)

Can't the poor sod just die in peace without people trying to use it to spearhead something political?

I hope this was high irony. Otherwise, it seems like a shot across the bow to call someone a derogatory name and ask that they are left in peace in death.

It it was an ironic joke, well done.

Honestly, with his obesity and his apparent history of violence and bad behavior, the homosexual people is better off without him. Find someone better to represent those people to fight the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

    gmwise, ready to step up?

I don't think anyone should get personalized tags. I don't care what you like, love, are into, or what your nickname is or how many kids/grandkids/dogs/cats you have. I think they are all stupid. Just drive in the right lane at the correct speed limit and stay off your phone.

All of you deserve an "IM GAY" tag btw. And I don't mean that in a homosexual kind of way.

Curious, so do you mean it as a put down?

I almost bought a personalized tag one year. I decided against it when I found out you have to carry your regular tag in the vehicle at all times when the personalized plate is on the tag holder.

One of my biggest pet peeves is clutter in my vehicles. I did not see the purpose in paying the state to carry clutter in my truck.

The only things I leave in my cars are a couple hand tools in the glove box and the owners manuals.

The left lane is for phone use and driving fast only .. please do not quietly drive the correct speed in the left lane.

Those seem to be mutually exclusive, almost every person that I see doing 45-50 in a 65 is on the phone.

I think that gay people should get all the same priviledges afforded to straight folks because I think they're no more abnormal than people with red hair. Because of this, I feel the tag is a bit egotistical although I wouldn't go as far as to ban such plates. Freedom to express oneself, as long as it doesn't cause hardship on another, shouldn't be stifled!

If you wish to announce the to unknowing that your "Gay, Red Headed, a Tree Huger, Womens Libber, OU Fan, OSU Fan, buy a bumper or window sticker. Car tags are for State identification use, and IMO, personalized tags should be outlawed.

I have no issue with personalized tags but the the problem with them, just like most anything else going on in the country, are those who feel that "Just because it isn't specifically prohibited by law, then it must be legal and it must be OK for me to do it."

This is the type of thing that nearly brought down our economy in the form of financial companies that created new derivative securities that didn't really represent anything tangible, companies that created insurance for these mythical securities, then when the real estate bubble burst, the money wrapped up in it all just wisped away into the air.

Bunty's precious medical pot issue is one I have no problem with personally, except that where it has been passed, there is a significant part of the participants in the industry that want to abuse what has been allowed and slip through any pot user who wants to use it. If its a MEDICAL POT law, then make it a medical pot law.

For those, like the respected departed subject of this thread, I am very sorry for his death and his family's loss. My fault with his position of fame is that, like religious fanatics, he wished to wear his gayness on his sleeve and blurt it to the world. For a fundamentalist Christian to do it, how many out there find it annoying to have someone blurt it in your face? Because this man was gay, the PC world makes it celebratory and perfectly OK. While I could care less that he is gay, he really has no need to stir the pot with his IM GAY license plate issue. By allowing him that plate, he would have brought a whole world of hurt on himself and perhaps, had some unintended consequences result.

One example of unintended consequences are things like auto insurers raising all rates on cars with controversial license plates because they get vandalized more. Is that something we want to happen?

That is a VERY good point, Mug.

Who gets the money from the personalized tags? If it is the State, maybe we shouldn't be too hasty to get rid of a source of extra income that is totally voluntary. I hear the State is in financial trouble so vanity plates might be just the ticket.

Personalized plates are a revenue source for the state.

Personalized tags cost an additional $25.00, would take everyone in OK to purchase one to make a dent in the budget shortfall.

I was just answering the question about who gets the money from them, not addressing any other extraneous items. If they didn't exist that would be even more money the state would have to make up.

Agree. Let's do away with this program altogether. Who needs all that silly extra money, anyway?

If you drive around the country, notice the percentage of semi-truck trailors that have Oklahoma tags on them. I lived in CT for a while and it was amazing to me seeing how even up there, a large percentage of semi-trailors had OK tags. I wonder what dent in our budget shortage a $5 increase in those tags might bring?
