Devon has made comments stating that they will not be closing the Houston office and moving those employees here.

It looks like they're starting to set the forms for the columns outside the core

Once the foundation is laid, about how fast will each floor take to put up?

Thanks in advance. I will take the answer off the air.

In terms of just steel erection, you will be amazed how fast they top it out. It's the envelope and interior that will take the time.

Except that this is not to be a steel structure. It is going to be a concrete with post tensioned slabs. The envelope will take place at a fairly fast clip as well due to this being a curtainwall glazed system. We will see the glazing delayed for time in manufacturing and to allow a good portion of the tower to be built ahead of the glazing systems delivery so that the installers are not waiting on the structure to finish thier job. No sub-contractor wants to have to mobilize multiple times to a site.

I heard previously that they were estimating a floor per week or so...

So was it confirmed that the structure will be steel? I could have sworn that I heard/read that it was reinforced concrete.

Ah. OKC@heart answered my question while I was typing it.

They are pouring the concrete on the main Columns at the north end of the tower! Sweet! I can't wait till they remove the forms in a day or so! The first vertical component of the main tower structure! That made my day!

New pics from earlier today. I took my photos through a window that was kind of dirty but hey, construction is dirty.

Looking east onto the jobsite. (Look at the Myriad's nice blank wall on the east side of the gardens.)

The first vertical columns rising out of the ground! (The construction workers standing on the forms give a good scale)

The view looking east from the parking lot just north of 420 W. Main.

So will the snow and wind affect the pour this weekend?

As long as it's above 40°. 50° is preferred.

I heard about the snow. Its going to be just like the Chrismas Eve. blizzard with snow drifts up to 4 ft. (I hope the close school!)

I heard it is supposed to get down to 28 degrees and like Troypin said, like X-mas eve, aka blizzard like conditions.

Saturday day and night looks like a no-go for a pour mostly because the concrete trucks have to drive on the roads. They will probably push it back to sunday afternoon.

Sorry troypin, the roads will be okay by the time monday comes around.

When they are predicting a blizzard it usually does not happen. When they are predicting a non-event a blizzard usually happens. LOL

I read the posts above, but does someone have a website we could look at that would show us (a pic worth a 1000 words) the differences in the types of structure (steel vs. 'concrete'). Are we saying that the structure will be more like the City Place or FNB buildings (interior frame-wise) as opposed to the Leadership Square or Chase? (Assuming those are steel, maybe they're not). Very interesting stuff here.

  20. Default Re: Devon Tower: Officially Under Construction

actually, all of the buildings you mentioned are steel: FNC, City Place, Leadership Square, and Chase are all steel frame buildings. FNC and City Place 'appear' to be concrete due to their facade massing but actually they are steel structures clad in stone/brick.

Im not sure OKC has a major concrete building downtown. yet.
    Oklahoma City, the RENAISSANCE CITY!

the devon big wigs are having an all day celebration on sunday in one of our banquet rooms in the Colcord; the window overlooking the construction site will be standing room only.

Just to put this thing to scale, the red framework of those cranes is about as big around as the back of a semi truck. The sections were literally carried on the backs of flatbeds, about one section per flatbed and it took up all the room length and width. In most of the pics, the cranes look small compared to what they're working on.
